Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old boy from Williamsville, NY, took his life Sunday after what his parents claim was years of bullying because of struggles with his sexuality.

His parents, Tracy and Tim Rodemeyer, say that Jamey faced bullies for years, though things intensified in middle school, according to NBC 2. Jamey recently became a freshman at Williamsville North High School.

In the wake of their loss, the Rodemeyers hope to carry on a message of anti-bullying and acceptance. "To the kids who are bullying they have to realize that words are very powerful and what you think is just fun and games isn't to some people, and you are destroying a lot of lives," Jamey's father told WIVB.

Tracy Rodemeyer misses her son, but hopes the loss can still be used to teach a message of tolerance. "It took him away from our family way too early and we're just convinced that he had a purpose on this planet and it was to touch as many people as he could," she told NBC 2.

According to NBC, the Rodemeyers had gone to the school about the problem in the past. Jamey even sought counseling to learn to deal with the problem, but it seems it wasn't enough.

While they say their son seemed happy in the days leading up to the tragedy, his "It Gets Better" YouTube posting from May includes details about how intense the bullying was.

Through it all, Jayme remained outwardly optimistic. “That's all you have to do. Just love yourself and you're set. And I promise you, it'll get better,” he said in the video, which you can see in full below.

Gay bullying has been gaining increasing attention in the media, as a number of tragedies has brought the issue into the spotlight. Earlier this month the California State Senate passed "Seth's Law" a measure designed to curb anti-gay bullying in schools.

He was lead to that mental state due to being bullied, which makes it the bullies fault. I don't get why this is so hard for you to understand.

I'm done anyway, it's the same shit posted each time.

Hmm using that language in more than one of your posts and I am the one that cant hold a mature debate? That seems a little silly to me sir. I don't get why it is so hard for YOU to understand that the act of suicide is performed by the committee and nobody else. Its a pretty simple thing guy.

I imagine you are the type of person that has an excuse for everything and has never once taken responsibility for something they may have done unless it was something you would be thanked or rewarded for. Part of being an adult, and MATURE (a VERY big part) is being able to take responsibility for your own actions, however foolish they may be.

Because you irritate me with the simplicity of your view. I am also not someone who doesn't take responsibility for my own actions, I do. I don't see how that is relevant to this topic anyway. I've accepted the fact that it is a decision that one takes, but don't you dare say that the involvement of the bullies have no play in the outcome, that's what started it all, and ended it all.

What kind of "realist" is irritated with the simplicity of truth?

Don't I dare? I already said the bullies pushed him into a state of depression but they did not have any involvement in his death or it would have been a murder... Please get your facts straight bud.

BTW have you ever seen the movie "Bully"? Unrelated but still a good flik.

I think at this point based on your willingness to accept that it was a decision in the first place, and that the kid made it himself (the decision), we are finally at some awkward form of agreement. I could agree with your last statement except for the last part where you say "and ended it all" because no, their bullying is NOT what ended it all...

Just like anyone does, you can choose to ignore things that people do to anger/harm you and be a better person instead of a crybaby. Try to not be so weak man, strengthen yourself because surely internet forum comments are not the worst thing that have ever happened to you. Use some of the skills you used to prevent yourself from committing suicide to prevent yourself from whining and being taken hostage by a ignorant person's comments.

Disagreeing is one thing, saying that anyone gay should kill themselves is another.

Yeah I didn't realise I said ended it all, but I think you get my point.
The bullies put him into depression.
Depression is what creates thoughts of suicide.
So the bullies are linked with the death, even if it is someones choice.

Yes but begging "please please please" for a mod is definitely pathetic.

How is that pathetic? was just being enthusiastic as there has been plenty of closed-minded posts like that in this thread, and it gets tiresome.

You seem to disagree with everything for some strange reason.

I can agree with this statement in the sense that they are linked, but not to be held responsible for the kids own act of suicide. At worst they are to be held responsible for the harassment laws of a state or school, but in no way responsible for another persons death.

It shows your inability to accept an others commentary and your desire for a Nazi like imposition of what you can and cannot say.
