The person giving the code must find some way of communicating the slope (if others know how to use this code, then it would be best to secretly communicate the slope). This is essential.

Each letter consists of two numbers. The first number is the Y-Intercept (b). The second number is the X value. You plug the X value into the line completed by the Y-Intercept, and it gives you a letter.

For example, if my slope was 1:

And you were given this code: 22142121-14 then it would translate into "HELLO." You would go to the Y intercept 2, and follow the corresponding line over 2 to get "H" etc.

If you understand it then try to decode this, with the Slope being 1:

    1340  -34-1410  325003  02145023  -242213-13  -34-1410  500214  211414-24

You can do it with just about any simple slope. You can do it with 1/3 or -3/2, etc. Here are some examples of other slopes:

Negative slopes are basically the same thing, except you follow the line down instead of up. for example, 82(13)45151(11)4 would be HELLO.
