Hmmm, let me think...
Republican... ie. Right Wing Authoritarian Capitalism verging on a Christian Theocracy.
Democrat... ie. Slightly Less Right Wing Authoritarian Capitalism with strong Christian undertones.
I'd have to say the lesser of the two evils is Democrat but they're practically the same party as far as I'm concerned. I'm a Socialist have been for about 4 years now, although politically I've considered other parties and positions. I voted Liberal Democrats (UK) last election as the Socialist Party wasn't standing in my constituency but I consider them not quite socialist enough for my tastes and much too in favour of the "nanny state". Still they're the better party for UK I feel. That said, even the Conservative party in UK is more desirable than either of the two US parties (the other US parties get less than 2% of the vote and as such effectively don't count for shit). I'm no fan of the Conservatives, but at least they support Universal Healthcare and are largely secular.
To be honest, and I mean no disrespect to you GE90, but asking "Republican or Democrat" shows a fundamental lack of understanding of politics and an extremely blinkered view. You've basically made a poll saying "What's your favourite colour, Sky Blue or Royal Blue?" complete with a poll that gives the following choices, "Sky Blue, Royal Blue, Some other kind of blue, I don't like colour", seemingly blissfully unaware that some people don't like blue... maybe they like Green, Red or Yellow... who knows, but with your USA based political upbringing, a country with Conservative Authoritarian Capitalism with minor differences as the only choice, I'm not surprised that you see politics this way.

Conservatism isn't necessarily interchangeable with Republicanism.
That being said, socially I'm more in tune with libertarianism, as anarchism isn't exactly a likelihood, and I don't know enough about economics to consider myself anything in that respect. I suppose my deepest beliefs would fall in line with those of an anarcho-communist. I should say in a perfect world, I would be an anarcho-communist. (Implying that I know better than to think such a society would ever exist without interference in our world as it is today.)
As things are, and as I understand things, Libertarianism/Anti-authoritarianism is more-or-less my social/political stance. There's a fine line between authority and leadership.
Edit: Upon further reading about economic stances, it appears my views are most relative to socialism.
My father is Conservative, so this should be fun.
We seem to have similar political opinions.
I would claim, technically to be a Socialist Libertarian myself. I feel things like the right to free speech, freedom of religion (and by extension freedom from religion), freedom of the press, the right to free expression, the right to protest, the right of personal liberty (ie. legal drugs, legal prostitution, etc). The government has no right to tell us what to do with our lives, what to put in our bodies, what we can put our genitals in, or what religious practices are acceptable. That said, financially I say Libertarianism is a foolish and fundamentally flawed system as the "company" as an entity is greedy, callous, and cares only about growing and amassing wealth. Without regulation companies will become too powerful as they are now in Wall St. Basically, I'm of the opinion that companies should NOT benefit from the same rights as people, that government should collect tax from both people and businesses and by use of the adage "some things are greater than the some of their parts", do what the people individually could not do. Provide healthcare, housing, food, education and transportation for everyone for FREE (they've already paid for it with tax). Provide all people with the protection of a standing army, police, firefighters and lifeguard, and to provide an ambulance service to work along side the healthcare system. A progressive tax, where the rich pay a higher percentage keeps the system fairer as those who cannot afford high tax pay a lesser amount. Those without a job or unable to work are given a welfare system to support themselves, and active help to find a job and/or training to gain their dignity (rather than using the welfare tax fund to pay for needless bureaucracy to try and "catch them out" claiming benefits fraudulently, just spend the money finding them jobs and they won't need the benefit will they). This balance between socialism and libertarian social ideals is my personal ideal political party. For some reason however there doesn't appear to be a unified party with my opinions.
