Just stick the normal HD PVR unless you want green lights instead of blue I had my HD PVR since MW2 came out and i see no problem compared to it besides lights and cables, I rather get this and wait for a 1080p then just a minor updated one.

The game edition one is 1080i, is it that different from 1080p?

New features for the HD PVR Gaming Edition

The HD PVR Gaming Edition is specially designed for the dedicated Xbox360 or PS3 gamer. The Gaming Edition includes a new jet black case plus a universal Component Video cable, so you can bring 1080i video from your game console into the HD PVR. Also, we include Arcsoft ShowBiz, which allows you to record your game play in HD and upload directly to YouTube.

Yes. PVR's only deal with up to 1080i quality.. That's all components can handle..
The difference between 1080i and 1080p is just the way software processes the video..
"i" stands for interlaced
"p" stands for progressive
Just an example..

First is progressive, second is interlaced.. However you don't notice the deinterlacing process between frames..

"""Differences between the HD PVR model 1212 and the HD PVR Gaming EditionThere are two versions of HD PVR: the HD PVR model 1212 and the HD PVR Gaming Edition. Here are the differences:

  • HD PVR 1212 includes a IR blaster cable to control your cable or satellite set top box channel changing. HD PVR Gaming Edition has a Component Video cable for easy connection to an Xbox 360 or PS3.
  • Both HD PVR and HD PVR Gaming Edition have our "no delay pass through" for recording live TV or video
  • HD PVR model 1212 contains Arcsoft Total Media Extreme plus Arcsoft Media Convert. Media Convert allows you to change the format of your recordings so you can view them on a iPad or other portable media player. HD PVR Gaming Edition contains Arcsoft ShowBiz with capture and upload to YouTube. A media converter is not included in the HD PVR Gaming Edition.
  • HD PVR uses a blue record ring to indicate that recording is taking place. The HD PVR Gaming Edition uses a green record ring."""
Thats all the real differences!
