You can record with anything, aslong as you can plug it in and save it to your computer.

Both ways will work, you just need the equipment to transfer it to your computer. With a digital camera, you'll need a cable in which you should just be able to copy the video over.. with a camcorder, which is usually higher quality, you'll also need a cable but you'll have to do a video capture in which your computer records the video off your camera and saves it as a video file on your computer. It's a little longer, but it's worth it.

I even use my phone camera sometimes just to record any random crap But a camcorder would be better quality.
