Grammar and writing tips for posting on NGU
Okay, here are some words not to use when posting, asking, referring to something...
A lot:This word can me a lot, but how much? If you were to say, I have a lot of problems with my ps3; how much do you have so the reader knows how to help you. (this can go a long way)
Stuff: What stuff could you be talking about
. Example: You're selling an item, "I have a lot more stuff where that came from."; How much? And what 'stuff'?
Things:Things could be anything. Like, "I don't get that stuff, those things are a lot of help, but I still don't get these things." I'm just trying to make up examples.
But you must be
SPECIFIC on what you are trying to say!
Contractions
They join two words together.
Can't=Can not
You're=You are
Shouldn't=Should not
Wouldn't=Would not/Will not
Couldn't=Could not
*I see this all the time.*
Example:"Your smart"=Wrong. It's, "You're smart" OR "You are smart"
Example:"This is you're shirt"=wrong. It's, "This is your shirt"
Conjunction
They join two phrases together.
Examples:
And, for, but, or, yet, so, nor.
They're: They are
Their: Person/possession
There: Place
Two: The number 2 spelled out
Too: Also/as well
To: All others... To mom ect..
Capitalization
First word in sentence should be capitalized. Such as, A instead of a. B , b, C, c. To do this, hold shift while typing to make it capitalized.
Also, names, places, months, and dates should be capitalized.
Tense, make sure you use the same tense throughout your post..
went, walked....
goes, going....
Is= singular
Are=plural
Spelling: If you don't know how to spell something, google it. Or get a browser that has spell check in it, and will underline any mis-spelled words, right click, and will give you the correct spelling. (chrome has that)
I think I have touched on most of the English grammar here, if you would like to add anything, just post it, and I will edit my post
