~~Updating everytime i get more news~~

What is SOPA? Why is it important?

SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) has been proposed by the US government in october 2011, its objective is to help fight copyright infragment material. (**Basically you wont be able to download your favorite movies,tv shows, music, FACEBOOk,TWITTER,etc) You might bbe worndering why would facebook, twitter, any website to stream online movies etc be blocked. Its simple, if SOPA gets approved it would have a very hard time to control these websites from spreading the copyright material so they will ahve to be shut down.SOmething i want to make very clear is that not only will it stop the copyright infragment but it will also stop freedom of speech For example, lets say that a reporter uploads important news to youtube it will be blocked, or even worse if he writes his news in a blog and links it youtube or a website that SOPA doesnt approved that website will be blocked as well.

Whats bad about illegal downloads being stopped?
Im not going to take sides here, this is personal opinion. I believe that every author deserves money for their hard work. But also there is people that simply dont have the access to certain programs other people have. SO the only way they can get them is by downloading them illegally.

 Im not in america WHY SHOULD I CARE?

It will affect you not directly exactly. However most sites have an american DOMAIN that will still stop you froma ccesing it even tho you are not in america.

"HA! I will just use VPN :mask:
Sorry to break it to you, but what gets blocked is the website so using VPN wont make a difference

:wtf::wtf::wtf:How can i acces them if this does happen? HOW CAN I STOP IT?:wtf::wtf::wtf:
The only way that occurs to me (please share if you have any other ideas) is by ip adress.

How can you stop it. The only real way is by supporting all the people against it

The Internet fought back to protect the Internet — and we won, for now. We have to assemble our Internet army for next year, when this bill will come up again.

I'VE GOT JUNGLE FEVER
It is wrong how people think it is a right for them to download software/games illegally because they cannot afford it. That is not an excuse. It is stealing, period. These things are privileges, they need to be purchased. It is not fair to others who have purchased legitimately. Using the same ideology you would think it would be your right to be entitled to stealing, for example a new 3D TV because "I cannot afford one". It is a moronic mentality and really childish. The OP and many others have exaggerated out of context the meaning of what SOPA is, it will not stop freedom of speech. It will not censor the internet. People are against because they know if it gets passed they will have to give up their corrupt ways and actually get a job to buy things. If anything it is making society more fair and equal.

1) Piracy isn't stealing, it's copying. Big difference as it means the publisher doesn't get hurt everytime you pirate something. Whilst I think people who can afford to buy stuff should do so, I find it unfair to penalize someone who can't afford something, who then goes on to copy it for his own use. Nobody gets hurt under that scenario, and not only does said person get the software he wanted but he may also inform his friends of it who may be in a situation to buy it themselves.
2) You must be incredibly naive if you think the US government won't abuse the power over the internet this bill will give them.

This. SOPA's goal is not to destroy the internet. It's to combat internet piracy. They won't just shut down facebook, twitter, etc., just because the can. Could it happen? Sure. Will it? Highly unlikely.
This in NO way stops free speech. At all. It stops illegal sharing.

However, I'm not saying I'm for SOPA, I don't think Pirating is a big deal if done properly. People who are unable to purchase something like Photoshop for various reasons aren't able to express their artistic talent. I personally only "steal" things to test them out, and if I like it, plan to use/listen/watch it again, I purchase a retail version. For music I typically just listen on youtube and that's enough, but for a movie, I'd like to watch it before I decide to support the director etc. A $1200 program is a lot of money, and they don't always offer 30 day trials.

I have to agree with your point on piracy.. I'll admit I have "copied" a game before but only for 2 reasons.

1) To see if my laptop, and desktop could run it smoothly.

2) To see if it is actually worth buying.

Glad to say that I bought it for ps3, because it was interesting and because my devices couldn't really handle it. (Furthermore the "copy" was deleted right after I bought a legit version.

And of-course the U.S government would abuse it. That's the intended purpose of this b.s.

i do not think this will happen, even if it does, it will not last very long as it is technically unconstatutional (if your american, you should understand what that means)
and people could easily take this as a case to the supreme court.

correct me if im wrong? i live in the UK and the American law system is very different to the system we have over here :p

i know it doesn't warrant stealing peoples technology, but for it to be pirated in the first place, NORMALLY someone has to buy the product. Furthermore, if people knew how to develop their programs, why don't they find away to stop piracy of their product? its surely not impossible.
