I want to climb Mt Everest, have a family, and be a pilot for any airline (preferably Aer Lingus or United).

Kilimanjaro is no where near being one of the toughest climbs. Kilimanjaro might have a longer route but it is not as difficult. Everest isn't the hardest climb but it is defiantly harder than Kilimanjaro. Don't even try to tell me Kilimanjaro is harder than K2 :wtf:

Yeah, but K2 seems like a non-acheivement. You're already in the Himalayas if you're climbing K2, so it seems odd to pick K2 over Everest. True K2 is the most shear mountain to climb (although people usually climb the Pakistani side which isn't much different to Everest), but it's all for nothings sake. Kilamanjaro at least has something of a view, K2 just has an endless view of more mountains, it doesn't really feel high up when you have 8km of mountains only a few hundred meters shorter than K2 surrounding you. Kilamanjaro however, that's a tough climb, the longest climb you can do on Earth, and it has a great view. It's the best to pick I feel and as it's longer I would claim it's harder. Mountain climbing is an endurance event after all, distance makes the difference. K2 isn't so much harder, it's just more deadly... I'd contend that those are not the same thing personally.

Can you never admit you are wrong? First off it isn't Kilamanjaro it is Kilimanjaro. Secondly stop trying to say it is the hardest, it is plain and simple, it isn't!

Since when did this otherwise nice discussion about mountain climbing become a character attack. So I spelled the name wrong, does it invalidate my point? Secondly, no I can't admit I'm wrong when I'm not wrong... I've yet to be wrong (as far as I can remember), about anything on NGU because I only speak out on things I know I'm right about, that is unless we're discussing opinion. Surely of all things, difficulty is a matter of opinion, right? Neither of us have climbed Everest, K2, and Kilimanjaro before have we? So we're guessing based on our own biases and opinions. I THINK Kilimanjaro would be more difficult because it would be more extreme weather (much hotter to start and faster winds at the top), and it's considerably longer, you feel it won't because other mountains are shearer and rougher and you think terrain is a more difficult challenge. This is a difference of opinion. Now if you don't like having discussions with people fine, but if you're going to basically imply someone is arrogant and unmoving because they dare to disagree with you then quite frankly I wonder why you bothered to converse in the first place. I thought we where having a pleasant casual discussion, I wasn't treating this as a debate or anything, you apparently felt otherwise.

It was a nice discussion while it lasted, if you feel like having a mature discussion again let me know, but next time please refrain from throwing your toys out of the pram if I decline to agree with you on an arbitrary judgement call than neither of us are entirely capable of making.

I am simply describing your personality, it is quite blatant. I feel it is quite ironic that the mountain that you were arguing was the hardest doesn't exist! Maybe you should learn the difference between Kilamanjaro and Kilimanjaro (giving you a taste of your own medicine). You are wrong in this thread and you were wrong in the God v Fact thread, you denied being wrong it both. It is true that you are entitled to your own opinion but when it is challenged and proven that you are wrong, you would be foolish to change it. Am I an avid mountain climber? No, but look around on the web, Kilimanjaro is not ranked anywhere near the hardest mountain to climb. It isn't the most technically difficult, physically demanding, etc. Its terrain is basic compared to any snow mountain, and it is an easy climb to be honest.

Not at all. Any person in good physical condition can climb and reach the summit. You should be able to run for half an hour or more without feeling short of breath. NO one with a sore throat, cold or breath problems should go above 3000meters. People with a lung or should not attempt the mountain at all without consulting their doctors. Being in a right metals state is important. Do not push yourself to go if your body is exhausted or if you have extreme mountain sickness or more serious symptoms. Your right preparation is very enough to conquer the summit without needing the technical gears and knowledge

You define how you come off in the majority of your posts perfectly! You seem extremely arrogant, cynical, and tasteless in your posts. Even in the quoted you cannot respond with a valid response so you try to attack me by saying I'm throwing my toys out of a baby carriage? This is no where near an arbitrary judgement call, these mountains are extremely different and you are a fool to believe Kilimanjaro is a more difficult climb than K2.

I am sorry if I come off as offensive in this post but someone had to say it. In all of your posts you seem to come off in this manner and you try to make up for the lack of the quality of posts with quantity.

Edit:
As for your comment on "I thought we where having a pleasant casual discussion, I wasn't treating this as a debate or anything", this is the debate forum not the general discussion, what do you expect?

If indeed mountain climbing groups claim Kilimanjaro isn't as difficult as I estimated then fine. It's not really going to effect either of us and this excessive level of joy you're getting at the concept of me being "wrong" is rather disturbing. So what, I'm wrong, I overestimated the difficulty of the climb... it was a casual claim anyway and I made it quite clear that it was an uninformed opinion, so what do you think you've achieved by "proving me wrong". I'd have agreed with you without any resistance if you'd shown me pretty much anything from a mountain climbers website or magazine saying I was wrong, there's really no need to act like a douche. I'm not a fundamentalist.

Surely not, it would be foolish to NOT change your opinion if you're proven wrong. I'd love to see you actually prove me wrong though, in something I actually give a shit about, not a basic statement of idle opinion.

Well isn't that nice, and if you'd explained this two posts back I'd have happily conceded. It wasn't a firmly head belief or anything, it was an idle statement of judgement based on limited information.

The valid response was before hand, now grow the hell up and stop acting as though you're some internet hard man, it doesn't impress me when little dog tried to take on big dog, at most it amuses me. As I said, I thought we where having an idle casual discussion, if you want a full on debate fine, but usually it's a good idea to indicate the tone of the discussion at the beginning, not drastically change because I don't immediately agree with you when you want it, whether I'm right or wrong. This is not how conversations work, you don't get to enforce opinion on people.

Really? Why? Are the dimentions of the two mountains, the terrain involved in each climb, and the specific requirements of the human body such that you can objectively deduce difficulty... are all theses things common knowledge. No, I don't think so do you? Are you a fool if you don't know which ancient city is older Kish or Babylon? No. You simply lack information. Don't assume stupid things like this, it just makes you look elitist.

Really? You think I make up for quality with quantity... considering how most people where post less than 5 lines per post and I've been praised on multiple occations for being one of the members known for putting effort into their posts, I think you'll find your opinion is in the minority. Now really, you're sorry for coming across as offensive. Offensive is one thing, but you're just plain rude. I know offensive, I'm quite offensive myself, often on purpose. Your posts however took the standard etiquette of debate and decided to blatently ignore it. You assert your position, get pissed when people dissagree with you, attempt to bully people into admitting they're "wrong" without providing any actual argument, insult people's character and act petty like a dog with a bone over a simple spelling mistake.

This is your attempt at debating... it's bullying and you know it, and the thing about bullying is I don't stand for it, so stop trying it. You want to prove me wrong, fine, find a point I'm wrong on (an actual point not a casual comment), and do so. But unless you can bring the stones to bear, don't act like you've got a pair. You've claimed I was "wrong" in the God vs. Fact thread, that's one where I have made bold and definite assertions in... so go on, prove yourself or back the fúck off.

The tone of the discussion didn't seem to warrent a debate. It was a casual chat, I didn't want to seem confrontational as it is often percieved as threatening, but as you're so quick to point out, we're in the debate section. Effectively you're playing me on my home turf and you're asking for a bitchslapping. So what is it you want to debate? After all "your dreams in life" isn't much of a debate so much as a casual and rather subjective discussion right? So go on, name your topic big man so I can beat you senseless with your own arrogance and teach you some fúcking respect.

First off there is no need to abuse the use of the character ú to avoid the censoring of the word filter. Secondly "I only speak out on things I know I'm right about", apparently you don't. There was no sense of opinion when you stated "It's a bigger, harder climb to do". That seems like a fact, not an opinion. I did prove you wrong you said the number of atheists in America outnumber blacks, latinos, jews, gays, and muslims. They total to ~32% and Atheists are a whopping 1.6% of Americans. I am fairly sure you were off by quite a large amount of people with that claim, 30% of America is quite a large amount. I am acting like a douche because I have proven you wrong? You were wrong in here, and in that thread, the proof is fairly obvious. Again I will refer you to this is the debate forum, if you want a discussion go to the discussion section. Again denying you've been proven wrong. When you make a claim in the debate forums as a fact, you shouldn't make false claims. I am not bullying you, just laughing at how you reject any claim that is made towards your stance.

Why don't we debate on how people who live at home past the age of 25 and are on welfare are unproductive members of society?
