(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Recently, I've been accepted into UCSD (University of California, San Diego), which can also be seen in my signature. The college is about an hour and 20mins drive away from home, so chances are I'll probably have to dorm. I also have the option to either rent an apartment, or live with a relative thats about 20minutes away from the college. My question is, what is the better option for me? What is the experience of dorming? Thanks guys.

Check out the school and the dorm halls to see if you would like living there full time. If you have friends that are also going to that school you could all pitch in some money to rent an apartment to yourselves which I would say is ideal. You can probably put in a request to dorm with somebody you know also. I'm going to Washington State University in the Fall and they have this program called summer alive which allows new students to stay in a dorm for a few days in the summer and sit in on some classes to get a feel for it all. You might be able to do something like that at your school too.

I would definitely say get some good friends and get an apartment together. Best way to go. That's what I did.

How about pricing? Is dorming relatively cheaper than renting an apartment, or vice versa?

From my experience, apartments are going to be more expensive. It all depends on how many people your landlord allows, and
the actual price of the apartment split between that amount of people. Me and a couple friends tried to get an apartment, but
after the math, it would cost more in the end if we just did dorms. I love the dorm life. I've met some of my greatest friends in
my hall and I personally feel it is the better experience. Hopefully this helps you choose Smile

I feel dorming is a good stepping stone for living on your own. You have your food plan and people take care of cleaning the bathrooms and etc. You can skip it if you'd like but it is a good place to meet a lot of friends and everyone is going to be your same age.

Yeah it sounds like dorming is where you start to take full responsibility of what you do. The same goes for renting an apartment, but it sounds like more doors are open for you when it comes to dorming.

Yea there is kinda a good chain of progression- Dorming-> Campus associated apartments -> off campus apartments

They each add some responsibility and freedom. Going to campus associated apartments means that you will have to make your own food and clean your own bathrooms but your utilities/internet/cable is still taken care of. Once you go to an off campus apartments you might have to take care of your own utilities/internet/cable depending on your lease.

Daddy's home.
90% of Ricks get raped whilst dorming. Something about the name apparently.

I would have thought dorming would be better. You'd meet new people and grow your friends circle. Easier to get to parties and girls rooms too. I don't go to uni so I wouldn't know, just a guess.

Yo see how do the dorm halls look like first, if you like it ect.. Then it depends, do you have to pay for a year right away or do you pay monthly to dorm there ?

I tried dorm one month didn't like it.. Then I got 2 good friends in the first month and we got an apartment but yeah because we had the money following otherwise I would be stuck with dorm haha
