I don't think so, personally. But everybody is wired differently.

sure, it can play a role in violence, its somewhat the parents job to look after what games the kids are playing

It is not video games that is an excuse. It mainly has to do with parents in my opinion and the up bringing of the child.

You can't use the excuse 'video games made me do it.' Sure, I can see how it changes the way a person regards violence, but it is not the sole reason why somebody would commit violent crime etc.

Although I can imagine why this is always being brought up in the media. Small boys especially like CoD and I can imagine them acting out scenes in front of their parents, who would be horrified. But it's the parents who let them play it, so they can partially blame themselves.

I don't think video games would cause one to kill their parents, unless there were some other factors leading to it that the news didn't release such as schizophrenia, etc. If he did have such a disorder then he shouldn't have been playing violent games in the first place.

Anyway, I don't believe video games is directly linked to violence in any sane individual (notice I said sane). I believe it helps me with stress, like for example; when I come home from school being pissed off at someone I could choose to take it out on my family, or I can go on god of war and rip some guys head off, lol. Just how it effects me, it may be different for others, but I wouldn't know because I'm not them.

On an semi-related note: I really hate how video games always fall victim to news stories. It always seems to be the fault of video games, but why is it rare you see news stories about new music having a negative influence? "You a stupid hoe, you a you a stupid hoe!" listening to that song has got to kill a few brain cells.

There have been numerous studies about whether violent video games inhibit violent behavior in children,
and every time they did one, no connection could be made to video games and increased violence in children.
However, that's not to say there's some partial influence. I feel as though kids become addicted to the games,
and they lash out in return for being punished or the game taken away. I don't think they try to act out the
game in order to revenge or whatever. Needless to say my view is to not let children play any games below
their suggested rating.

That's a little over the top.

When I was 8 years old I managed to get a copy of GTA: San Andreas and I was mature enough to know that it's just a game and completely devoid of reality. Having said that, there are plenty of mentally "iffy" kids out there for whom a game such as this would act as a "trigger". Thus, like with everything else, I've come to the conclusion that this is very subjective. Some kids like myself were ready to play it that young, and some adults will never be capable of playing it without there being negative consequences. Such is life.

Can’t trickshot me!
if people dont understand right from wrong even when they are a child then that is their problem. if parents didnt let thier little 7 year old play Mature rated games then they shouldnt be having problems. games have a rating for a reason. dont get me wrong video games can be extremely violent but you should kno that they are just a video game and that the things that happen in video games stay in video games. i do agree with everyone else that it deffinetely is the parents falt not the video game's falt.

Hmm.. somewhat video games contribute to how children act these days. Well we also have our share of violent acts due to video games when we were young so.. yeah I guess that's about it. Smile)
