Post: Organ donation

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I would like to here from a few people their thoughts on organ donation. In my opinion, there is no argument on wether or not it can save lives. It does raise a few ethical issues and this comes with alot of medical advances such as DNA modification and being able to select the sex of your child. But back to the point. There are almost no religious rules against donating organs or receiving transplants, in fact, many religions encourage it. The Catholic Church supports organ donation on the grounds that it constitutes an act of charity and provides a means of saving a life. I can agree with that.

But what are your thoughts on drug abusers getting transplants? Is that where you cross the line?

Feel free to leave some comments voicing your opinion.

Since most people who donate major organs are dead or almost there anyways, I don't see why it could be bad to save a life if your's is ended. Even if they are drug abusers. The only people who shouldn't be regarded highly in this are those who harm others. In which case the organ could go to a better person, as transplants are always needed.

Iam an organ donor. I dont see a problem with it your saving someones life. What if its you who needs the organ it will be because of organ donors that might determine whether you survive or not. Now if its drug abusers i really cant answer that my gut says no but we as human beings all deserve second chances maybe that would change his/her life into the right direction. Give that person a different outlook on life.

Why not save peoples lives when I'm dead? There is no harm in it. Organs are just going to rot anyway. I don't think they can just give organs out either. If you're an alcoholic or drug user I think you'd have to be sober for as long as can be until they need the organ. Organs are so rare to come by, people waiting on lists for years before they get one, that's why they can't just hand them out, and if it was a choice between someone who intentionally ruined their organs to someone who fell ill, I know which one I would give it to, and I hope that the doctors are the same.

You can save about 4/5/6 lives with a single donation, and some of them could be a child.

I think it's a complicated process as to who get's the organs. If I was 70 and needed an organ otherwise I would die and it was my turn I'd tell them to give it to a child who needs it, who has their whole life in front of them.

I also think that when you die, your organs should automatically be donated. You don't need them, they can help someone else, and they'll just rot, there is literally no reason to keep them after death, unless there is a religion in which you need to be buried whole, which would be kind of silly really if you died by getting chopped up or car crash where you get limbs chopped off.

If I were go be an organ donor, I would like my organs to be used for one of the following:
  • Used in juggling acts.
  • Surgically implanted into a living person for practical joke purposes.
  • Surgically implanted into a living person for medical purposes.

As a donor I had to fill out several "yes or no" questions, one being: "Would you like to be an organ donor?" When I checked off "no," the person behind the counter at the local donor registry shook their head at me in a disappointed way, and I consequently felt guilty and changed my answer to "yes," which gave the government the right to take my organs out of my body when I passed away, or was too drunk to know any better - whichever came first.

So everyone stop being so selfish, arrogant bastards. For once in your life, think about someone other than yourself, like a poor Cambodian girl who stepped on a land mine wile she was walking to school and needs a skin donation urgently. It doesn't even matter what color your skin is, so don't use "being black" as an excuse.

You might have two arms, but there's some people in the world who don't have any. Don't you feel guilty having all ten of your fingers when a boy from Mexico has only two, and they're both middle fingers? What kind of savage are you? You don't really need your ring finger. Besides, to be honest, you aren't ever getting married and you won't ever need to wear a ring.

And how could you say you need all 28 of your teeth?

Besides, you don't really need half of your organs to survive. Like your penis. Or your eyes. In fact, if you donate your eyes they send you home with a free coupon for a half-priced book.

I support organ donation. I see nothing wrong with it and I think it is definitely a worthwhile thing to do, especially if you do it upon your death. It's simple to say what I think about my organs going to people who destroy their bodies through an action they made of their own accord. I definitely do not support tax dollars going to help; they screwed up their body, they should pay for their own damn healthcare. Likewise, I don't want my organs going to an imbecile who destroys their own body. Being an addict is difficult but at one point in their life they made the initial decision to do whatever it is that they're addicted to. Since being an addict is difficult, it's likely that the organ donations will be squandered and wasted; not that the person means to do so, they may just be really addicted. So, as concisely as I can; I support organ donations completely but that being said, I don't want my donation to go to waste by it being given to a person who will squander it.

organ donations are in my mind modern miracles. if someone who is dead or dying can save a life, why shouldn't they? they aren't using the organs anymore, so why don't they let someone else use them?
