Got given a iPhone 3GS on 5.1 for free the other day. Just wanted to know should I jailbreak it?
Is it really worth it, plus can you restore it back to it's original settings if I didn't like it?

I'v been told not to do it because it'll slow down the Phone + the battery life will be crap.

It truly depends on what you want to do with it. To give you some ideas, here is some links.

How to do it. One of many I am guessing.

Good Luck.

as said above, it depends on what you want to do with your iphone. i jailbroke mine because i found that some tweaks i could get for my iphone were worth it. one thing i hate is the noise the iphone makes when sending messages, and when i jailbroke it i could get rid of it. i also use it to download free apps, music, and other things. yes the battery life is lessened, but it doesn't slow down my iphone...
to me the tradeoff was worth it, but it's really up to you.

Yes you can restore it and everything will be back to normal without jailbreak. But if you want to jailbreak wait some time because the untethered is being finished so it will be release soon. If you need anything or want to know something related to iOS feel free to quote me. Smile

I'd only want to see what tweets I could do, maybe a few app's that's about it if I'm honest.
How much would you say the battery went down by? ie how much faster.

Performance and battery are not really affected in my opinion. For one, you can install tweaks from Cydia to actually improve battery life. Take You must login or register to view this content. for example. It allows you to configure the screen to dim after x seconds of inactivity. So if you put the iPhone down for a bit the battery will not drain at the amount it would at full brightness.

The only thing that will really affect battery performance is installing custom themes from Winterboard. Unless you want themes, don't worry about that for now.

In conclusion, wait for the untethered iOS 5.1 jailbreak is released. It is close but there is no official ETA. Jailbreaking really makes the iPhone better. There is a wealth of tweaks, apps and other modifications you can do through Cydia.

If you ever want help, PM me. I will be happy to provide instructions on jailbreaking or tweaks Smile

I got told it trains the crap out of your battery and slows it right down
That's a good thing, good little app there I'd download.

Yeah I'v seen that on Youtube, looks cool but I'd like my iPhone to look like one, maybe change the slider text or what have you (Don't really know much about the tweets)

Yeah I'll wait until that is released I think, could you maybe PM me when it's out? I have memory like a fish.

I'll sure PM you sometime about what tweets and stuff =D

Thank you so much, really helpful :y:

that's tough to say, but i would say maybe 2/3 starting battery. that's a rough estimate though
