How long can they trace back to? I'm scheduled for an interview for Walgreens tomorrow at 10:30 am EST. If I am hired, I need to take a drug test. Standard urine test. I've smoked weed before. A few times. The last time I did it was... I don't even remember, but maybe like a month or a month and a half ago. Can a urine test trace this?
Also, any tips on interviews would be nice. I've never had an interview before.
Regarding the drug test, keep some things in mind...
A urine test can be accurate up to a month long. That means you can be clean before that. If you smoke a gram a day your entire life, it can cause you to fail up to around 30 days after the last day you smoked. If you smoke a gram every couple days for just a month, then stop, you'll fail until around 2 weeks after you've stopped. If you take 2 or 3 hits one time, you should be good sooner, as in 3 to 4 days, but no guarantee. Things that can affect this include being overweight.
A hair test can vary heavily. Keep in mind they are more expensive, and you probably won't receive one unless most likely. These normally show drug use up to 90 days, when taken from your hair on your head. They can also sample body hair, which can last up to an entire year.
Anyways, you should be good, just drink some water. If it comes back positive, ask for a retest, saying you've never done a drug in your life very convincingly. With this extra few days you should be good to go. If they say no, then they say no. It can't be held against you in future employment. Just drink some water.
Regarding the interview, there's a few thinks to keep in mind.
1. Eye contact. - Assuming you're applying as a cashier, you will interact with everyone making a purchase. Make your employer know you will be someone who will make your customer's buying experience the best it can be.
2. Hand Movement. - Once again, assuming you're applying as a cashier/bagger, you have to be able to talk and use your hands. Small hand gestures while talking subliminally will show your new boss that you can use your hands and talk.
3. Dress for success. - kind of cliche, but pretty damn legit. Who would you hire to a job? some punk with a green Mohawk or a kid with a nice button down shirt and tie? get a nice clean haircut tonight, make sure you've shaved recently if you're on of those kids who gets a nasty ass half beard every other day.
4. Ask a question. - most of the time, at the end of a interview, the employer will ask something along the lines of "Do you have any questions?" Most people shrug this off with a simple no, and that ends the interview. A smart trick is to ask a question. It shows you think on your feet and you're genuinely interested.
Most of those I've found through advice columns and such about landing a job, but basically, you've got to be interactive. Have some charisma.
