I prefer Distant Relatives over Illmatic. It's more my style:

As a big rap buff myself, I'd recommend newcomers to the genre to explore the roots of hip-hop- from classic artists like Rakim and Big L, to more modern classics such as Nas, RZA, Big Pun, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Ice Cube, NWA, and Biggie Smalls. If you want to explore the underground realm of hip-hop, I would strongly urge you to explore artists like Vinnie Paz, Immortal Technique, MF Doom, Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, and Canibus. I just named a few artists that initially came to mind, though if you're interested I can list quite a few more. As for albums...I'd say start with classic hits like Illmatic (Nas), Me Against The World (Tupac), and Paid in Full (Eric B. and Rakim). If you want to explore some excellent instrumental talent, I'd start with Madlib.

I liked that post until you said Ice Cube haha. Never forgive, never forget.

It's so sad looking at what Luda could've become. He sold his soul.

Lupe Fiasco is going to end up just like him. I see it in his recent works.

And for my 5th post in 2 minutes, here is a song that is too damn catchy:

I was debating whether or not to make mention of him, he's a very controversial character. But, despite his present-day self-image, he did release and write a few tracks worthy of being acknowledged. With the music industry, you either die soon enough to be regarded as a source of inspiration and admiration, or you live long enough to become a symbol of ridicule and disappointment.
