(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});I know this game was out when were all young gossens but thought why not review it. It was my first Pokemon game and have completed it I dont know how many times. I know what you are all saying 'Why not review a recent game?' I have thought about that but why not bring back the classics it might even inspire you to replay some old games
Pokémon Yellow. Released in October of 1999 for the Game Boy Color, the first sequel to the Game Boy Color Pokémon games. Pokémon Yellow is a game that took Pokémon to a whole new level back in the Game Boy Color days. Pikachu traveling with you side by side, how cool is that! I certainly thought so. Pokémon Yellow is a game of mystery and fun for all ages and should be enjoyed and admired for how little of these games exist today. Pokémon Yellow is a statement in The Pokémon Franchise for what a great game it is, was, and still is.
Like Pokémon Red and Blue, Yellow takes place in the region of Kanto; the objectives remain the same as well, though some differences exist along the way. For example, in the beginning, players are not given an option of choosing one of three starters. Instead, a wild Pikachu that Professor Oak catches becomes players' Pokémon, while the rival character takes an Eevee that was intended for the player. But you are given the option to obtain all three starters from the original red and blue games throughout the story. The plot takes from the anime, and features characters that were not featured in the game or have been enhanced to resemble their anime characters, including Jessie, James, Meowth, Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny. Team Rocket plays the role as the games villains. They are a shady bunch that kidnap Pokémon and use them for their evil deeds. You first encounter Team Rocket in Mt. Moon. They are their capturing Pokémon for their organization. You stop their evil ways throughout the story and foil their plans just like in the anime but in a sort of different way.
The gyms are quite simple puzzles the usually revolve around the most recent HM move you received. There are 8 gyms in total and most if not all are located in the main cities you travel too. The gyms consist of numerous gym trainers that are stronger than most trainers throughout the game, and then the gym leader. The gym leader is usually quite hard to beat. When it comes to this its all comes down to strategy. If you beat the gym leader you get a Gym Badge which is needed to progress through the game. In addition the gym leader also gives you a TM that might be helpful throughout your journey.
Pikachu follows the player-character on the over world, and can be examined by speaking to it. While it initially has an indifferent opinion of the player-character, it can grow to love or hate him based on the players' actions; leveling up will keep Pikachu happy, while fainting frequently will make it unhappy. I personally thought this feature was amazing. Pikachu walking and interacting with you is just awesome!
Pokémon Yellow has a very different stats section compared to the newer games. Pokémon in Pokémon Yellow only have 4 stats. These include Attack, Speed, Defense, And Special. These stats determine the amount of damage will be dealt to the opposing Pokémon, and the damage that will be dealt to you. You are limited to have up to 4 attacks on each Pokémon. Pretty simple am I right? The game is very simple to play. Doesn't take very much time to learn the controls and the battle style to know what you're doing. The difficulty is fairly easy for an advanced Pokémon player, but to a newcomer it can be challenging. This game is very easy to follow and I’d recommend to any beginning Pokémon player.
There is an area in Pokémon Yellow that features a "Surfing Pikachu" mini-game. In order to play it, players must have a Pikachu who can learn "Surf", a Water-based attack. At the time, players could only accomplish this by winning a contest to get a "surfing Pikachu". However, if players use their Pikachu from Yellow in Pokémon Stadium and beat a certain mode under the proper circumstances, they are rewarded with the Surf ability, which can be used both in battle, out of battle, and in the above mentioned mini-game.
What makes these games so well known is the mystery Pokémon Missingno. Which ultimately stands for Missing Number. Missingno is a Pokémon full of mystery and humor. Missingno is a glitch left in by game freak to fill in space within the game. More like leftover data. This glitch is simple to perform and comes with many great benefits. Now Missingno often rumored to be a game breaking glitch, is actually false. This will not break your game 99% of the time. Missingno just causes weird graphical spasms of the game text and well just looks flat out hilarious.
Missingno comes with a duplication glitch upon catching the Pokémon. It will duplicate the item 6th in your slot to its max. Ultimately making it useful to get free master balls and rare candies. This glitch is often exploited to get this feature. Missingno also glitches the hall of fame data, any data that has been saved into the hall of fame will be permanently be glitchy with graphical spasms and changing Pokémon sprites. This does no harm what so ever. I honestly think it’s flat out hysterical.
I give the game 9/10.
The reason I give the game a 9 is because of the games easygoing controls and atmosphere. I also commend the graphics as well as these graphics were quite good at the time of release. I also give it a 9 because the game can give hours of enjoyment for any age.

Nice review, main problem with first gen was the OP'ness of Psychic Pokemon though. I did enjoy Yellow though.
