(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});We all know about the event that happened in Aurora, Colorado, where at the new Batman: The Dark Night Rises midnight premier a man went on a rampage killing a number of innocent people, as well as injuring over fifty. Well, you'd think this was just a psychopathic decision made by a man dressed as the infamous and well-known Joker, correct? Some people, (of course), say otherwise.
This is the internet, and it was only a matter of time someone made a comment on the subject saying this was all because of videogames.
In a piece of news on You must login or register to view this content., CNN's criminal profiler Pat Brown stated that videogames put people (not only teens) in the mood to kill.
"He probably spent a lot of time in his apartment, playing one video game after the other—shooting, shooting, shooting—building up his courage and building up the excitement of when it’s going to be real for him.
"And now we’re going to find, probably on Facebook or anybody who knows him will say, ‘Yeah, he did have a lot of interest in that.'
"He was always playing the video games. And I’m not saying video games make you a killer. But if you’re a psychopath, video games help you get in the mode to do the killing," said Brown.
There has been quite a bit of discussion regarding this subject, and You must login or register to view this content. has written a good piece about some background information on Mr. James Holmes, who committed the recent Colorado theatre crimes this Thursday.
Keep in mind, that when everybody who was close to Holmes or knew him well, never said anything about videogames, not one time was it brought up.
What do you think? Do videogames drive people to go murder innocent people? Do you think it has anything to do with James Holmes and his situation?
Nice job Rod. I read this earlier today and I kinda am leaning both ways. First off he was a psycho and playing video games probably tampered his mind. A regular person though, probably wouldn't have done this, because it's common sense. :p
I hate these fucking morons that assume that correlation implies causality. A mass murderer played video games; that must be why he killed so many people. Honestly, tons of people have played Batman games and they don't run around jumping off of gargoyles screaming "I AM THE BAT". Whenever there's a fucktard committing mass murder it's always pinned on video games; just because the criminal didn't have the sense to differentiate between real-life and a virtual scenario it doesn't meant that the videogame is the problem.
Anyways, this was a mini-rant because I've had enough of this shit where videogames are always the cause of mass murder and other violent crimes.
