(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Let's get a nice organized, mature thread going on what we call 'indie' titles.

Indie games are classified by the fact that they're not "mainstream" per say. Minecraft is indie, but still popular, and a lot of fun (opinions may vary).

Share your favorite indie game, why you like it, and what you'd rate it 1-5 stars.

This is to widen peoples eyes when it comes to video gaming, so discuss!

Note: All posts that are trolling/flaming/etc. will be deleted.

It's a game made by Notch that weighs in less than 4kb! Great fun, captures a L4D zombie feel. Ya know, your scared as piss that you can't walk into a room without getting mauled. Great fun. :y:

Good thread, The only Indie games I have played are:

- Mine Craft (Free if you pirate it)
- Yume Nikki (Free to play, Genre: Horror/Free Roam Exploring, Have to download and install to play, Rating 5/5)
- Ib (Free to play, Genre: Horror/Puzzle, Have to download and Install to play, Rating 5/5)
- SCP Containment Breach (Free, Genre:Horror, Download and Install to play, Rating 3.5/5)
- SCP-087a (Free, Genre:Horror, Download and Install to play, Rating 3.0/5)

Right the first one, Yume Nikki (Dream Diary) it's an 8-bit game about a girl that Lucid dreams and you essentially just go into her dreams and explore them and try to find effects (which are basically items that do things to you in the game) it can be quite scary and has lots of very weird imagery throughout that hint a what this girl may have been through in life, watch the video for a better description and taste of the game.

Game Download Link: You must login or register to view this content.

Website with alternate download links and games following on from Yume Nikki can be found here: You must login or register to view this content.

Here's a video of someone starting the game and introducing you to the world:

Ib - another 8-bit game though this time it's about a little girl that visits an art gallery and goes off to explore but then becomes separated from her parents and ends up in a mysterious word inside the art gallery. It's a good puzzle game with interesting music and multiple endings it can be quite scary as it is horror themed though.

Website + Download link for game: You must login or register to view this content.

Both Yume Nikki and Ib have a great atmosphere that sucks you in and can give you hours of entertainment. Both were also made using RPG maker.

Now to spend the next 30 minutes tweaking this post until I remove ever spelling mistake and grammatical error.

'Indie games are classified by the fact that they're not "mainstream" per say.'

There's a lot more too it than that. Indie games are typically developed by small independent (hence "indie") teams who don't receive any financial support from publishers.

Indie developers typically follow the DIY philosophy. They develop and market everything themselves. They're not limited by a financial backer's budgets or decisions. An indie game can certainly be mainstream (as you mentioned with Minecraft.) The whole thing that defines whether a game is an indie game or not is mostly how it came to be.

That being said, I can see this becoming a great thread.
