Do a barrel roll!
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); First off, let me just say that I didn't create this thread in order to inform people about this device, even though I probably will be considering I haven't seen a single thread about it yet; I created this thread to hear what others think of the Oculus Rift. Will it be a hit? Is it going to have good games? Will it be fun to play, or too complicated? With that being said, I will briefly explain what exactly the Oculus Rift is.

Basically, the Oculus Rift is a virtual reality (VR) headset, designed to "immerse" the gamer in video games. Some of you may be familiar with some failures such as the Virtual Boy, which was also a VR headset, but this one is different. The display on it is said to provide the gamer with a 110 degree field of view (as opposed to most other ones that provide a measly 40 degrees), which gives the player a much better sense of depth and gives them a greater feeling of actually being in the game. The screen resolution is currently in 720p, but according to what the company is saying that could change. The way the headset works is it follows the gamers head movements and correlates them to the screen (For example, if the player is playing a first person game (I would imagine most if not all games played on this would be first person), if the player moves their head left, the view will look to the left). However, the Oculus Rift claims that their technology is much more responsive than any other VR headset.

I'll be honest with you guys, I'm not quite sure how exactly games are played on this, but from what I can understand, you plug it into a PC and the PC actually runs the game (In other words, the Oculus Rift is more of a moniter than a system). They have also stated that they would like it to be compatible with PS3, Xbox 360, and mobile devices.

As I type this, their kickstarter page has raised $1,295,110 after 26 days, and their goal was $250,000.

If you would like to learn more about the Oculus Rift, I recommend watching the video on their kickstarter page, which can be found here: You must login or register to view this content.

So, what do you guys think? Vote in the poll, and maybe explain your reasoning by posting. Personally, I believe that if this Oculus Rift is affordable, supports good games, and is as good of an experience as they describe, it can be a success. In fact, it may even inspire some developers to create a first-person game (For example, I think a first-person pokemon game would be pretty dang interesting).
