Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence Saturday night after allegedly head-butting his wife in front of their house.

Johnson was arrested after police arrived on the scene and found Evelyn Lazado with lacerations on her forehead. He told police the two of them had accidentally bumped heads.

According to police, Lazado confronted her husband after finding a receipt for condoms, which started a "heated argument."

Since entering the NFL in 2001, Johnson been known for both his big plays and his big personality. While his showboating and self-promoting might rub many people the wrong way, Johnson has stayed clear of the law throughout his professional career (although he was arrested in college for a domestic dispute).

Not surprisingly, Johnson had already established himself as the star of the HBO reality series "Hard Knocks," which is focusing on the Dolphins' training camp this season. In this past week's opening episode, he said Lazado wouldn't have sex with him during his dismal year with the New England Patriots last season, but that he knew he was in love with her because she's the only one who can cause him to pause the video game "Call of Duty."

Johnson and Lazado, who stars in VH1's reality show "Basketball Wives," were married in July. Soon after, he legally changed his last name from Ochocinco back to Johnson, saying his wife insisted that he do so.

The six-time Pro Bowl selection will remain in custody until a bail hearing is set, which might not be until Monday, said captain Dale Engle of the Davie (Fla.) Police Department.

[For the record: An earlier version of this report incorrectly stated that the alleged incident took place in a car.]
