(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I don't know why it took me so long to realize this. But it's true.

Because you're wandering around, searching for a good catch. When you first start playing, you get so excited when you catch your first rattata. You're all like, oh shit, I caught a rattata, this is pretty good! It's like your first pokemon, and it's so awesome. Then you catch a pidgey and you see this huge difference from your last catch in strengths and abilities. And the more you play the game, the more you realize "wow, rattata's and pidgey's are not only everywhere, but they FAIL." But you don't realize it really until later, because you're just excited to have caught SOMETHING, right?

And you spend all this time training up your pokemon, but that time spent training the individual pokemon seems kind of fruitless. Because usually, you catch better and better pokemon and spend your time training them instead. Most pokemon just wind up forgotten in the storage thing.

And it's crazy, because you don't know until the end of the game which pokemon has been your best one, which one has carried you the farthest.

Just like in real life. Because some people get so excited for pidgey's and rattata's, spend so much time with them, tell everyone they love them only to find out there are hundreds of people just like them at every corner, and they're really nothing special. It isn't until later when you've got balls to the wall awesome pokemon like Mew or Charizard of Lugia that you realize you don't even remember what box you put that first pidgey in. When you catch that first pidgey, you don't even know such awesome pokemon are in the game. It's not until about halfway through you realize you've actually spent the entire game, looking for that legendary pokemon. That you save the masterball for your next encounter, because you need to put out your best game.
