In this thread you'll find some of the tips from some of the greatest NGU members (In my opinion) on how to better yourself as a member of NGU and even potentionally becoming a staff member

[Multipage=Threads]Here you'll find some great tips on posting threads, that could earn you your next rep star or even your first :y:
NOTE: These are my tips, OG Tips can be found on Page 5.
Basically threads are where a user can ask for some help, reveal some new info on pretty much anything, share an intresting (or useless) video or article, or just to have some fun!You want to really focus on two things when posting a thread: Quality and Grammar.
Quality is one of
the most important things when posting a new thread. Otherwise people won't view it, reply, or rep. Some might even groan it (Groans and -rep are something I'll go into detail in a bit). Now a lot of old users such as the ones in the tips from ogs page know that quality has dwindled to about nothing here.
Threads used to be something users took pride in, especially news articles. Some members still are posting quality things, but a lot aren't. In fact a lot of users are just leeching, but that is besides the point. The point is post quality threads; do research, make sure it isn't a repost,
do not directly c/p (unless its a quote). Make sure your thread is unique; that let it show off who you are as a writer. Threads really influence how users see you. So make them how you want people to see you.
Now on to grammar.
Grammar is something you gotta pay attention to as well. Grammar shows a users intelligence off, it can make or break you. Typn leik dis won't get you views. Infact it'll probably get you some -rep. Grammar isn't as big as quality, but it still is pretty big.
Here are some misc. tips about threads:
- Don't get angry about everytime someone -rep or groans your thread. Ask them how you can improve your thread.
- Try to make news articles anywhere between 3 and 8 paragraphs. Too long or too short articles tend to be skipped over.
- Say your posting just a video, provide a description to your video.
- Make threads interactive. Users generally like the idea of being asked a question or given a poll to decide something, so add questions and polls when appropriate.
- Remember not to ramble on your threads. A little extra talking is ok, depending on your thread's quality. Too much talking though is a No-no.
- Name your sources! If you posted something that wasn't originally or completely your find/thought post a link to your source.
- Add pictures and videos. No one likes to just read (I understand I'm contradicting myself), so add in some videos or pics.
[Multipage=ShoutBox Habits]So you wanna be a sb star and be instantly recognized when you enter the mighty ShoutBox? Follow these tips and you'll be the next Alfa
In the SB its mostly about chatting with people. Sometimes you'll see a user in need of some help, sometimes a user will post a link to a thread, sometimes people will have an intellectual conversation. So be apart of the crowd (Yes, in threads I said be unique, in the SB conform).
The mood of the sb is the way you'll decide how to act. Say people like Millz54 (Sorry if its 24 or a different number) or ToKiiNz are in the sb talking about specs for PCs, if you don't know what you're talking about stay quiet, if you do speak up.
Something to keep in mind though is no matter what the topic is, if you don't know what they're talking about either stay quiet and learn, or ask questions; just don't be annoying and ask too many questions at one time.In the sb you can link people to your threads, other threads, youtube videos, pics, and a few other things. Remember not to advertise or give out private information (Even if its your own).
Also remember not to spam links or emoticons/smilies. Don't be a Sox, be an Alfa
Some other things you may wanna make a note of are:
- Stay in the loop. Try to keep up with whatever is going on with users in the SB.
- Sometimes the /ignore command is your bestfriend. Using the /ignore command in the SB is one of the most powerful things to avoid flammers or trolls. Just type /ignore *USER*. To unignore a user simply type /unignore *USER*.
- Be helpful in the SB. Someone asks a question try and help.
- If someone posts a link view it, especially if its another thread. Maybe you'll see something you like.
- Don't be a ignorant twat in the SB. Plain and simple, don't act stupid and tpye leik dis. People tend to ignore you that way.
[multipage=Helping Users]Something important that'll earn you a lot of respect is helping people. It may not earn you rep points, but Respect is something better, it helps you make a name for yourself.
Helping users is one of the most unappreciated things in NGU. People used to help one another and be serious about it. Nowadays users either ignore you or post something ignorant. There are people on NGU that still do help though. So aspire to be like them :y:[Multipage=Tips from Some OGs]Alright I understand that a lot of you don't wanna take my words and advice into consideration so maybe you'll take some OG reference into consideration...

To become a valued and loved member of this wonderful community, you must post quality content and help the members. Never break the rules, users will disrespect you for that and arguments may arise causing you to get flamed. Also you must say "alfa iz da best" whenever you see me!

Always help newer members, and don't look down on them. Every member on the site was in your position at one point. That's really a main thing on NGU, people looking down on non-prems, prems even now that elite is here.

The best way to become a better NGU member is to be kind, friendly, helpful and sociable. Talk to people, get to know them and do whatever possible to help them, don't act like a faggot, report posts when needed and use proper grammar.
