Post: Equal Rights (Sexism)
08-23-2012, 04:03 AM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Now this has bugged me over so many years, and I just kinda want to debate about it. Now keep in mind some of these laws only apply to the USA, but some may be (i'm unsure though) apply in other countries.

Now I want to talk about equal rights, but with the sexes. Now it is true that women are sometimes mistreated due to sexism, may it be in the workplace, or school, or any other situation. Now does that "sex card" go too far? Is treating them better really being sexist to men? In a few examples over the years have just bugged me. One of them is the whole unfairly treated work/school thing. A girl could complaint about being treated unfairly (which is sometimes true) and they pull the "race card" of sexism. They usually get better benefits, and even a raise. Now I'm all for "fair treatment" but if it's fair it has to be equal to the other party. Another is rape. Now this has been a big topic in politics lately as well, but only women can get "raped", a male cannot be "raped". According to the FBI, women are the only gender that can be raped, to men it's just "unpleasant sex" and is not illegal on any degree. (except battery maybe?). Which brings out another reason, just on a social level the whole "you cannot hit a girl" bugs me, and others. It is "unmoral" to hit a woman. Yes it is illegal, but it's illegal to hit anyone. It's assault and against the law. It is true that it's unmoral, but if anyone hits me, i'm knocking you the fuck out. (depending on the hit lol). Now I want to hear your opinions, but do not try and persuade people. I want everyone to give their opinion first (in fairness) before we start persuading. I would like greatly to hear. :p

Simply put you're correct. There are societal double standards that women are weak and men are strong that falsely perpetuate the problem. There are issues going both ways and to only be concerned in addressing the inequalities that one sex/race/etc suffers is selfish at best.

Oh, and the word is 'immoral' Winky Winky

Yes, but I'd like more specific examples. Of course we know it's more complicated than that, but we should pinpoint.

That reminds me, how come when an adult women approaches a child it's normal.
but if an adult male does it he is automatically assumed a pedophile? It just goes to show how unfair pulling the "not fair" card is. We'll see more as society develops.

Also, Thanks for replying Clutch. Sometimes you can be stuck up, but I respect, and value mature responses such as that. Hope to see you more! Happy

Yes women are still more discriminated. Specially when it comes to income. Remember the Walmart controversy a few years ago? Where even executive women were paid less than the men?
On top of that we got a-holes like this occupying public office:

"Legitimate" rape? Women have a way to shutdown rape? And these are just the more obvious examples. Others include women not being chosen for a job because they can get pregnant and that would mean the hiring party would gain less money should that happen.

Both sexes have legal and social issues surrounding rape. Both sexes have to put up with false stereotypes that the vast majority don't fit in to. Both sexes are targeted with certain slurs that are unfairly applied to them. Both sexes have something to shout about and want changed.

You have your head well and truly hidden up your ass if you think one sex has it decidedly worse than another.

Off the top of my head, women:

- The right to abort a foetus.
- Society expects women to be pretty and put great pride into their appearance, but not all women fall into this stereotype.
- If you're a guy and you sleep around you're practically hailed, whereas if you're a woman you're called a wide range of slurs, most commonly 'slut' and 'whore'.
- As already mentioned, the pay disparity.

Men:
- Society expects men to be big and strong, however like above a great deal do not fall into this category due to genes and/or personality.
- Men are forced to pay child support when they had no say in whether a child should have been aborted or not. This is unfair given that only the potential mother gets to make the decision regarding her and the potential father's future. The only way to combat this is to allow 'financial abortion', Google it if you're unaware of what it means.
- As already mentioned, if you're a guy and you approach a child you're assumed a pervert and/or a paedophile. This simply doesn't happen with women. Another ridiculous false stereotype.
- Men have it tougher with the law due to the stereotypes of both sexes. This is backed up strongly by statistics. A man for the same crime will on average get a noticeably higher sentence than a female equivalent.

There are probably many more, but these are just off the top of my head. Both sexes have issues and anybody who cares for equality should focus on both and not just their own.

When the percentage of woman paying child support is higher than men, then I will consider woman equal to men.

Just wait till the draft rolls out, let's see which women still want equal rights.

But in all seriousness, you are very right and wrong at the same time. Yes, women receive special treatment, but as guys, we have many benefits. If you get a girl pregnant at 17, who do you think is going to not go to college and take care of the kid? The guy or girl?

I know a girl, 4.0 gpa, honors, all that shit. She got pregnant and is dropping out of because the kid takes up all her time. The guy who did it moved and has nothing to do with the baby anymore.

On top of that, they have a period every month. That, in my opinion, makes it all worth being a little sexually profiled...

When a chick is on her period she is SUPER horny, but you have to deal with her complaining for a few days.
