Post: Next step in human evolution?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); A friend asked me this question, what would you think the next step in human evolution will be? Keep in mind that for another step in evolution to occur, there must be a threat to human survival; such as food source, etc.

Something we'd consider supernatural. I'm thinking telepathy will be next.

^^ By definition something supernatural would be outside the realm of science and therefore as far as I can see shan't happen in evolution. There's certainly no reason to think that it will.

Not really sure...I guess it all depends on the planet earth, the climate, that is.

There is actualy some controversy about that- many people, including myself, believe that humanity is not strongly influenced by the evolutionary process anymore because of our social structure and technology, and soon will not be influenced by it at all.

We don't have biological "survival of the fittest" anymore, because children born with birth defects or other problems can get medical help to live longer- even long enough to reproduce.

We don't have much natural selection for reproduction either, since our society expects almost everyone to get married and have children.

Soon, we will have true gene manipulation, and people will be able to reshape their bodies however they want, completely placing us outside of evolution.

Maybe an extra finger or arm who knows. Maybe it's been trying happen like that but us as a society see an extra finger or arm not right so we cut it off. Idk wings would be legit to, but we would also need lighter bodies/bones to fly.

That's true, geneti c mutations are rare because the human population is stable, but what I meant in the thread was if there is something that humans will need in the future (such as water supply/etc), how will they adapt, I should have specified that.

I would not discount humans yet, after all they have yet to remove themselves totally from self destruction.
I believe the Darwin awards are still being printed, and awarded still.

Humans may not change on a drastic scale, but they will on a more subtle level.
