Ok so im the starting QB at my high school and i have always gotten really nervous before games. I just wanted to know if you guys had any suggestions to calm the nerves???
- listen to music before game
- imagery (imagine yourself achieving well during the game eg scoring)
- self-talk (e.g. "i've trained hard and got this far, this'll be a piece of cake"
- breathe to control the anxiety
I start MLB and FB for my team. What I do is get focused wayyyyy before a game. Like if the game is friday, Ill get mentally focused on Monday and stay focused the whole week. My coach gives us scouting reports so I study that all week long. Like the previous poster said, listen to music. Nothing gets my head straight right before a game more than listening to music.
The song I listen to to get my mind right is
It always pumps me up. Its completely normal to get butterflies before a game. When you get on the field, they should be gone. If not, you have to work on your confidence.

Yea music always helps me. Ill have to try imagining myself doing good in the game.

Oh hell yeah, I get these all the time playing D end and OL. Make sure your drinking water, sounds dumb but if I havent drank enough water that day I worry that I'll be dehydrated. Pop some ibuprofen, it helps out a lot with stress, at least for me. Lay down pre-game. I take a nap around 3:30 after the pregame meal. Wake up around 5, and I'm all ready to go.
