(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I was thinking of something cool but not to controversial for a weekly thread. This is a small and fun way of comprehending your's and other's ideologies.

So the first question is simple. Pretend that we all die on our 100th birthday; therefore, we all have the same life span. You meet with this deity/god/spiritual being/flying spaghetti monster/something that can posses these powers. Who tells you he can give your 1 million dollars (my apologies foreigners) per every year you want give up. So to make it more clear say you are 20 years old and you live up to 100; you have 80 years left of your life. Therefore, if you give said thing 10 years of your life you will live until the age of 90 (70 years of living). You will the be 20 years old and have 10 million dollars in cash.

So to the simple version
1 million dollars= 1 year of your life?

my response is in the spoiler

My reasons are pretty idealistic. I would not give up my last years of life for instant gratifications. Although; i would not like to be remembered as a pest/burden to whoever will take care of me, people might need them. You never know what the future might hold and who needs you

If this gets a good vibe i'll do another one next week .

Good thread, make one a week please :y:

I would give up 20 years of my life. When your older you can't do as much and it may be annoying for your family to have to treat you etc. I would have $20 million for my life, so I wouldn't need to work and I could invest money and have everything I need.

I would never want to live to the age of 100, with the burden of being cared for by others, no. I would maybe want to live up until 70 and that should suffice for me. I think $30 million is good enough for me, I can buy many things with that much money and still live a happy life as well.

2. Does this "deity/god/spiritual being/flying spaghetti monster" accept Refunds?

I would give up around 20-25 years of my life for the price, I honestly wouldn't want to live into my late 90's.

Someone is bound to post something supportive of the adage, 'more money, more misery'... I would have posted in acknowledgement of that statement, but I then considered the universally applicable life span and the fact that every million dollars obtained would result in life span reduction. Unless I am guaranteed physical and emotional well-being for the entirety of my 100 years of life- an impossible request- I would certainly not want to spend more than 75% of that set lifespan. I would probably see this as an opportunity to decrease the inevitable misery of the latter half of my life, more so than an opportunity to gain wealth. The longer men live, the more the latitude for failure, betrayal, and misfortune is protracted.

Besides, I've lived several decades long enough to understand my weaknesses and accurately predict what I would spend that money on. Probably after the first year of financial prosperity, I'd be more consumed in the alcoholic lifestyle I've struggled to liberate myself from, and more entangled by the chains of irrepressible misfortune than I ever was before.

So...whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune and die young, or live long enough to be institutionalized and strangled by self-pity...that is the question.

I would also knock off around 20 years. Like everyone else said when you are that old you start to have health problems and are really restricted as to what you can do. I think you'd probably be lucky to not be in a bed all day being cared for by others by your late 80s.
