If what he is looking to do is just play games offline, then keep it. If he wants to go online and doesn't feel like pirating games: sell it.

If the system is in working condition.. I see them going for 200-350 dollars on craigslist simply because they are rare.

Depending on what needs to be fixed on it, I would install custom firmware and sell it. You can make a lot of money if it is backwards compatible. If you do decide to save it, start a youtube channel and host some modded lobbies. Get somewhere doing that.

My take is that you should sell up. You had this console for a long time and like you say its gathering dust so sell it. If you can get it to host then please do but simple answer- Sell it if you cant host/ DONT sell if you can host agian.
