I'm not putting in a poll either, they don't prove anything.
You can show your workings if you want.

NOTE: Order of operations is PEMDAS
No, solving it from left to right is not necessarily correct.

A scientific definition of theory is very different from the way you seem to be using it. A scientific theory is the explanation of some aspect of nature that unifies a vast body of reliable knowledge. In layman's terms, it's a theory that is born when a substantial number of hypotheses point to the same conclusion.

Answer is B 288
48/2 (9+3) =?
48/2 (12) =?
24 (12) =288

A little easy. Next time quadratics?

Implying you have the right answer. Implying quadratics are hard.

You didn't even try this 5th grade maths. You'll more than likely get it wrong if you do.

The answer is B; 288.

If you get 2, please explain to me where you get the extra parenthesis/bracket?
- The equation is 48/2(9+3), don't change the equation into 48/[2(9+3)]

I learned the basics of multiplication and division in 3rd grade. Then they started getting into order of operations around 4th-5th grade.

Both answers are right it just depends how you solve the question, OP's is the top if you remember that the symbol on applies the the number directly after it and no more, those with the answer 2 are solving the equation on the bottom. (Sorry for badly formatted equations but you get the idea and I can't be fucked using a program to make them look nice and uploading a screencap)

It's not necessarily poorly written, but writing it as below would eliminate the chance of confusion between answers. Beside where do you ever see somebody write a complex math equation with a division symbol.

48
------- (9+3) = 288
2

48
------------- = 2
2 (9+3)
