Post: Gun control & the right to bear arms.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Living in England I've grown up in a country where you quite simply by and large aren't allowed guns, so gun crime itself is as far as I'm aware a comparative rarity to say in America. At the very least that's the impression I get. And I like that, because I feel like far too often with everybody owning a gun somebody would do something stupid in the midst of an argument or at the lowest of lows in depression.

On the other hand, I have an enormous distrust for 'big government' and looking at various things I think owning a gun would be a nice security to perhaps allay those fears.

I shan't go beyond that in the OP. Reply away(but preferably don't threaten me with your legally owned pistol).

I don't think people should have the right to bear arms. People will be pro-guns until someone they know gets injured in gun related violence. I think it's a bit too late to crack down on people owning guns now. Obama's proposals are quite good I think, but how is he going to collect all the guns there are out there already? If guns were illegal in the first place everything would be better. If gun laws change, people who own guns might get a sort of "advantage" on new gun owners.

Grumpy is God.
Honestly no offense but I do not even understand why people are in here discussing where guns are already illegal in their country because in that case the discussion is completely different. There is a large difference between taking something which is already illegal and has been basically forever and taking something which has been legal for hundreds of years and ripping that right.

Now that that is out of the way first and formost I would like to state that I am a gun owner and I will be for the rest of my life. I live in the South Eastern Region of the United States and when Liberals talk about outlawing assault rifles it is absolute nonsense. All it is doing is giving the government more power as if you outlaw assault rifles the public has basically no chance of going against the government. One main reason gun owners are gun owners is to keep them in security from the govermnet right? Well what do you expect to do about it with Glocks and Hunting Rifles. Secondly Assault Rifles and while it is tragic when they are, they are very rarely ever used in crime as they are not concealable, they are not as cheap etc. Thirdly outlawing the sales of guns would do nothing crime wise because 90% of crimes committed are from private sellers or illegal guns.

Moving on the people in this thread saying that there should be psychiatric checks as a gun owner is insane (at tax payers expense). Reason being is we are in 16.5 trillion dollars in debt. A psychiatric check is around $200 so say that every gun owner had to get 2 a year or one every 6 months then you are looking at $400 a person per year there are an estimated 500 million guns in the US so do the math, thats a lot of money in debt. Now people would argue that the US has control of way too many firearms although I disagree with that as well. Reason being is the fact that that is one of the main reasons which countries don't want to invade us because if they tried our citizens would go ape shit as we have enough weapons for every man, woman, and child.

Regardless of the fact that the US may have the constitutional right to bear arms, they can still enforce stringent rules to monitor where the guns are going, and the specific types of guns. Get rid of high powered AR's, get rid of large magazines etc, and enforce universal checks on the people purchasing these weapons. Also look into their expenditure on mental health programs, in understanding and helping those who suffer. That is all.

It is NOT the government's business to know what kind of guns everybody have. Getting rid of AR's, if it happen, will be only the 1st step. Then they will come after the handguns, and before you know it, the public will have their rights gone. EVERY dictator in history disarmed the citizens from Stalin to Hitler to Castro. The politicians can try to ban the AR's all they want, but the criminals will STILL be able to get them so banning or them is pure stupidity. We have the right to protect our own life with WHATEVER gun we wish, so you can either lay down and obey the tyrants or you can stand up for your rights.

That's a pretty ballsy move of the US Government, if they were to ever move forward on removing all guns (regardless) from citizens. I don't see that happening (not in my lifetime, anyway). I will say this, though: they (Big Brother) has an agenda. And that agenda WILL be met, whatever it may be...

An older gentleman told me this a long time ago: "Don't be left playing Checkers, while your opponents are playing Chess..."

If its of any value im studying on how to play chess right now, that old dude must have been ahead of his game, literally. Also, Big Brother is always watching, you cant even get a girlfriend without them knowing about it lmao. Unless they already know her too, but good luck with that.

I just hope everybody wake up and we all defend our right so it'll never happen. The only way Big Brother's plans will go down the drain is if humanity wake up and realize we have the power not them. And yea i agree with the old man, they are making serious chess moves while the majority of ppl are entertained with checkers.

I think assault weapons will be banned before I die, then pistols... And finally shot guns and hunting rifles before my kids pass... I am a NRA member and own guns I don't want it to happen but I think it will. As long as people have power, food, the internet, they won't fight back, not in any number that will do any good anyway.

I love guns. I grew up with guns. I respect guns. And i own a few. Personally i see the average citizen carrying a gun only as extending the police forces power in stopping or even eliminating mass shootings. In many cases police arent around to stop every criminal so making a legal process for each citizen to bear firearms could possibly greatly eliminate crimes. Not only is it a constitutional right, but a fact that it would better society.
