What kind of record player?

I was looking at the Pioneeer PL 990 and i was wondering do i just need to buy the record player and i can start listening to records or do i need to buy something else? and if that isnt a good one, could u tell me one that has really good sound quality for under $250? Im kind of an audiophile but just getting into this kind of stuff...
