In some cases people might owe someone a 'thanks' due to making them a sig, giving useful info or has helped a member in some way with the site. So that might explain why you see random posts getting 'thanked'

As for people doing +rep for +rep, it does happen, and there's not much that can be done unless it's brought to our attention, or we find it suspicious and we look into it.

well maybe they have in there sig saying rep me and I will rep you back in return so they do that and get rep

its true some people would probably rep or thanks if some else started a thread whats up lol if your name has rep4rep they do it just to get rep back (like under my name) lol even if i started some retarted post

it is possible for the rep but no for the thanks button... but for the rep you would have to adjust it to every single post :|
