You can receive rep in two ways:

  • The reputation module in the postbit
  • The "Thanks" button

The main difference between the two is that through the postbit, a user can give negative reputation as well as positive reputation. The maximum positive reputation through the postbit you can receive is +150, while the maximum negative reputation you can receive is -50.

However, the user does not have a choice as to how much of each they can give you. Their "rep power" decides how much they give you. Rep power is calculated through what your current reputation is. I'm making an estimation that the calculation for positive rep power is (your reputation / 95), maxing out at 15,000 rep, and the calculation for negative rep power is (your reputation / 285), maxing out at 15,000 rep.

Through the thanks button, you receive +20 reputation. The groan button does not remove any reputation, but does show up in your profile statistics. The following info shows the different reputation stars and meanings.

You must login or register to view this content.,You must login or register to view this content. Green Bars - These are each "worth" 100 reputation.
You must login or register to view this content. Golden Bars - These are each "worth" 250 reputation.

You must login or register to view this content. Bronze Star - This is given when you reach a multiple of 2,000 reputation.
You must login or register to view this content. Silver Star - This is given when you reach a multiple of 6,000 reputation.
You must login or register to view this content. Gold Star - This is given when you reach a multiple of 18,000 reputation.
You must login or register to view this content. Reputation Badge - This is given when you go over 24,600 reputation.

Reputation doesn't mean anything though as members with very high rep have been banned in the past for scamming.

Personally rep meant more when everybody didn't have in excess of 20,000. I mean the average rep using each member in this thread only once totals 12,139points (My self not included) that's a fuck huge amount of rep. A lot of things like that on this site are bust, vbux for instance is worthless because everybody had so much and when they did something about that quite a while back it didn't remedy the problem.

None-the-less good thread and job explaining it.

You could add in that you get another +1 added to your rep power for every year you've spent on NGU.
