This is a thread I am going to dedicate my journey through fat loss supplements to. It will involve reviews of all the different supplements I have taken. My opinion of each and every one of them (just in case you feel you would like to have a go at one of them), and my future plans: what supplements I will be taking next, and my progress reports with them. It isn't a thread debating about supplements, I'm just giving you an overview whether they really work or not, for me (it has been said that they work for some, not others). Let's begin.
This whole process has taken place over 13 months. I decided to hit them gym and work my way up to that ripped body - slightly optimistic. I'm not a cliche fat person. My limbs and everything besides my stomach were moderately muscular, but i did have a bit of fat on them, my stomach, however was the thing I was trying to get rid of, you'll find out all of this soon if you feel like reading on. I did constant cardio for 6 months, I went to the gym, ran, cycled, you name it, then I did a bit of weight training, on the machines, not free weights. I felt like I needed something to speed the process up, I was losing weight, and gaining a tiny bit of muscle at the time, but it was all happening very slowly, so I did some research, and that is how I came to my first product:
Ephedrine HCL

Well, what can I say. As a first supplement, I had high expectations, I had never dealt with any of this before. I thought the % of fat would roll off. I started out with small dosages, of 20mg per day because ephedrine is the supplement with the most possible side effects I have taken. There were so many, jittering, headaches, high blood pressure, etc. I'm only a teen so I stuck to the small dosages. Just to let you know, I never experienced any of those side effects. The first few workouts felt great, I felt like I had a lot more energy (during cardio), however the weights side of my workout didn't change. Ephedrine summed up is basically to increase the amount of energy you have so that you can burn faster and for longer, leading to a large amount of calories burnt and therefore faster + better weight loss. I decided to up my dosage because I wasn't really feeling the effects. I went onto 30mg per day.No difference was made when the dosage was upped. I then considered the possibility of it being a placebo, which I'm still confident it is today. No physical weight loss results were obtained, I was still losing the fat, but just as slowly as before. I never finished the month's course, it really made no effect on me.

I then thought all hope was lost, I still hit the gym regularly, but still saw results like I had done before ephedrine. I had no future plans, and just kept going like I usually did. I decided to speak to a few friends who I know have lost a lot of weight before becoming the biggest people I know. They pointed me into the direction of my next supplement:
CLA - Conjugated linoleic acid

CLA is the best fat loss supplement I have taken to date. Every day I've used it I have definitely felt more energised and more willing (the gym isn't exactly the funnest place I have the option to go to). The stuff is made from acids and chemicals found in meat and dairy, so it is all natural, which is why there's hardly any side effects. It does the same sort of thing as ephedrine, helps cut fat and gives a lot of energy, as well as promoting better metabolism and theoretically burning calories for you while your sitting down (obviously nothing like a gym workout!). I did however change one thing personally when I was on CLA. I switched from cardio to circuits, half way through. I focused on specific things a little more, I spent time on the mats doing press ups, sit ups, free weights etc. As well as doing things such as the rowing machine and the cross trainer as a small cardio at the end. Ever since I came of it I felt like I had less energy than when I was on it, which is why I'm still 75% sure it wasn't a placebo, along with the fact that my body fat visibly went down, leaving barley any fat on my body, besides my stomach. CLA is special because it preserves muscle and their growth. I became a lot stronger and clearly more muscular than I was before I went on it. However, this may have been because of the switch I made. Regardless, It really was the best supplement I've ever been on. If you have a month before a special occasion and feel like you need to drop the pounds, I highly recommend it! The only down points was the hassle, quite a few times I forgot to take the cap, it wasn't the end of the world, but 3 times a day was pretty difficult for me!

After coming off at such a high from CLA, expectations were high, I needed something different, not just something that gave you energy etc. That's when I spoke to a few trainers, people who knew their stuff. The supplements from here get more extreme, this is what I came up with next:
Thermobol

Thermobol was very different to me. It is know for, 1) It's caffeine level - It gives you a lot of energy at the gym, preparing you for "fight or flight", increasing adrenaline levels, helping you burn calories for longer, like to two above supplements. 2) It's incredible concentration on metabolism - all the extracts it contains help boost metabolism levels. It basically increases the number of dumps you take in a day, except when you take a dump, you're also getting rid of all the oily stuff that helps towards fat storage, it's pretty disgusting. However, to be honest it did actually really help me, body fat looked as if it went down (focussing on the stomach now, everywhere else has pretty much been covered and muscle is being built up), and my energy levels were really high with the caffeine. It definitely wasn't a placebo, considering the ingredients it contained. Side effects were jittering and headaches because of the caffeine, but I never really experienced those. I tried to take them as early as possible, because they do stop you from sleeping well if you take them too late, but again, that's because of the ingredients. Thermobol was a really great boost for me and did help me towards my goal, however the metabolism effects were very annoying, and even though they definitely helped with the fat loss, they were the only reasons why I didn't like the product.

This is where I am currently at today. I finished thermobol and haven't really made a lot of progress with supplements since. I've increased my workout, but I think I'm at the stage called "Plateau". This is where you hit the level at which losing weight/fat is INCREDIBLY difficult. If you put it on a graph, weight loss is like a curve. It starts off as a steep straight, vertical, line (because losing weight at first is very easy), but it eventually starts to curve off, and slowly becomes an almost straight horizontal line. Some people, like me, believe that supplements are needed to get you off this horizontal line (called plateau), and to help you start rising again. This is how I found the supplement I will be taking next, which has been ordered and is on its way.

Dosage: 2 per day (1 in the morning, 1 before a workout (evening)) - This can be upped, max. 6 in 1 day.

What to expect
I am expecting a large increase in energy due to the caffeine. This is the most extreme supplement I am going to take to date. It promotes fat oxidation and with the energy it provides, really will help me out of plateau and will get that final % of body fat off me, so that I can then move onto focusing on the building of my muscles. It's going to be interesting, and I'll post results below incase any of you want to know more about it!
