The term singularity describes the moment when a civilization changes so much that its rules and technologies are incomprehensible to previous generations. Think of it as a point-of-no-return in history.

Most thinkers believe the singularity will be jump-started by extremely rapid technological and scientific changes. These changes will be so fast, and so profound, that every aspect of our society will be transformed, from our bodies and families to our governments and economies.

I'm not much for conspiracies and I'm not paranoid, but I do believe in a singularity occurring in the future. With technology becoming so advanced and us becoming so dependent on it, there will be a point where the technology won't need us in my opinion. Please read the entire thread and watch all the videos before posting.

Claytronics:

Claytronics is an abstract future concept that combines nanoscale robotics and computer science to create individual nanometer-scale computers called claytronic atoms, or catoms, which can interact with each other to form tangible 3-D objects that a user can interact with. This idea is more broadly referred to as programmable matter

Scientists believe that claytronics will become realer and more dynamic in the next 15-20 years.

This video's a bit more theoretical, but could still happen in the distant future:

Notice:
-How the girl holding the camera was reflecting herself as the girl making gestures the whole time
-How the man didn't feel the reflection put her head down
-The pregnant women's husband transformed the suitcase into a chair

Nanotechnology:

Nanotechnology is the engineering of functional systems at the molecular scale. This covers both current work and concepts that are more advanced.

To get a better understanding of what nanotechnology is and what it can do, watch the following video:

Though at the moment this isn't a reality, nanotechnology can theoretically be flowing through our bodies and blood:

Artificial Intelligence:

Artificial Intelligence is the intelligence of machines and robots and the branch of computer science that aims to create it.

We already have programs like 21 Questions, Akinator, and our smart phones. All which know more than us. Even Ken Jennings, one of the most intelligent people in the world couldn't keep up against a computer when facing Watson in Jeopardy.

After Ken Jennings lost, he said, " "I, for one, welcome our new computer overlords." You can say "the show was fake" or that "a human was controlling it" but again, go and try to beat something more simpler like 21 Questions. Still shows how vast a knowledge base artificial intelligence can have.

Robots:

Robots are getting better, faster, smarter, and more human-like by the year. Look at a few of these videos:

As all of robot's perplexities get programmed in along with things like emotions and critical thinking, what will distinguish the line between humans and robots?

Invasive technology:

RFID chips, smart dust, cell phones and more gadgets are leading to a less private life. The following video does have some propaganda and an agenda so try to ignore that. But all the things mentioned in the video are real:

In Flames Much?
The world as we know it has changed so much over are short span on this earth. Science along with the resulting technology has changed the way we live our life. It changed are working habits and had an effect on being evolution , the brain has had it structure change as a result. Each human now produces more data than at any point during our history daily, we also have become a massive consumer of that data.
It's very hard to predict the future , a lot of the key changes in history have been impossible to predict that set to continue for a long time.
One thing for sure that is all the technology we have made so far is coming together. Internet for example has created the largest machine and connected a series of devices together all around the world. A trend which is set to carry on for a couple more years, connecting more devices together.

Maybe we could get to a stage where a singularity happens with the technology we made. Technically the work has started with a series of new areas being opened up we could move beyond evolution and make it a key part of us. Don't think that too far off being a reality. I can see pretty easy a group of humans who do and become a new sub species and a group who don't. It's not a terrible thing to happen if it gives us more diversity to face the challenges ahead.

I agree that it's started to an extent, but I'm talking about on a more massive level. Technology being built today is continuously trying to make our lives easier (so to say) by making us have to do less and instead let our smart phones and other gadgets handle things. In my opinion, there will be a time when the technology gets so advanced, it can perform as if it is a super human and live self sustained. At that point, what's the need for humans? We won't be the smartest or most efficient organisms anymore. Darwinism will occur.

Can’t trickshot me!
I agree, many things about our civilization has changed, not only that but our interactions with one another as well.

But it will be much harder to move forward if we have all these mundane things and all these annoying and unfruitful people/leaders making sure that we are always at a loss for control in regards to how we can keep the good times rolling.

It seems like whenever something good happens in this world, there's always a purposefully bad law or an intentionally idiotic idea that is brought to light that seems to sacrifice more lives that could have been used doing the right thing. Its all these pointless deaths that are making our progress that much shorter and insignificant to the world.

Things like facebook can reflect a few of these changes.
