I always see the term "national security" bandied about but I've never seen an example of where "national security" has actually been compromised. Instead what we've had is an insight/confirmation into how much our governments lie to us.
Another way of putting it would be whose security is this, ours as a collective nation or just those at the very top?
Agreed.
Why? If a terrorist has committed a crime then a trial will be sufficient. Allowing the government a golden pass to detain whoever they want under the guise of 'terrorism' is dangerous to say the least.
Since I am currently unable to use the iQuote feature I'll just reply.
What I mean by national security would be things like the location of military bases, our nuclear missile capabilities, and other things like that. Obviously these are very closely guarded secrets that countries wouldn't like to have going around, especially for a country that would have such huge amounts of foreign involvements. (Both good and bad).
And yes, things like the public's financial status, and other confidential info should be kept secret too.
And you know what, you're right about the last part. Government nowadays will label anyone a terrorist just so they can create conflict. However under certain circumstances, there is no capture order, just kill. If a terrorist is captured you they should have a transparent trial, but in most cases terrorists aren't captured, but they end up being killed instead.
