i think you mean ISP, not server? but anyway any isp can give you a good connection provided it is cable or dsl, and that you are paying for a speedy plan. BUT, playing online games actually doesnt take up much bandwidth, and what matters most is your ping time, which is the time it takes for a data packet to travel from your router to the server and back. therefore, you could actually have the exact same playing experience on a 1mbs down/200kbs up plan as you would on a 50mbs down/20 mbs up plan as long as the ping times are comparable. what really makes a difference is if you have family members running internet applications that are very bandwidth intensive, say uploading youtube videos or using rapid share or any other p2p service. generally, these large data packets hog the bandwidth by physically "pushing" the small gaming packets away from being transmitted through the router, therefore taking a long time to reach the server and increasing your ping time which translates into poor online gaming. when you are experiencing this, check if a family member is web browsing or doing any task that utilizes the internet. also, being wired instead of wireless greatly improves connection reliability and reduces chances of a timeout. as far as routers, i would highly recommend one with QoS so that you can prioritize your ps3 over other bandwidth intensive services. my personal router is the dlink dgl-4500 which i would highly recommend looking at.
