Here is the transcript.

him - hello, am interested, hope is still available for sale?if yes get back to me immediately and my questions are are you the first owner and what is your last asking price thanks and hope to read from you soon.

Me - I posted the ad yesterday with the original asking price of $4500. An I am the second owner of the car, but I bought it off a good friend, whom I knew took care of it.

Thanks for your quick response ,I will not be coming to view it because of my Job,i am a Marine and i am buying this for my Uncle.i am at sea right now and am satisfied with your firm/advert price,as am requesting this transaction should be done via PayPal so the PayPal charges is on me and Payment will be made via PayPal (if you don't have an account,its easy,safe and secured just log on to

Me - Could we do a bankers check. I am not to experienced with PayPal.

Him - i Am sorry as am not in the state presently,but i need to pay with my
paypal so that the shipping company will be responsible for the pick
up, you canlog on to [url]www.paypal.com[/url] to get one if you dont have a paypal account
already and get back to me with the e-maill using to register so that
i can transfer the fund to your paypal account...

Me - Who is going to be picking up the vehicle

Him - the shipping agent that will come for the pick up after the payment
have been made and cleared to your account, transferring the name of
ownership and signing of all paperwork will be done by the shipping
services company agent so you don't have to worry about that.

Yes, its a scam.

This is well known in Europe and a few people have fallen for it.

There even was a documentary shown on TV about this type of scam.

How does this scam work surely if he pays and the payment clears you can give the car away to the guy that shows up? Or do they retrieve the payment after?

yea no this is a very common scam, i get contacted everytime i post an ad like this so ea dont bother with these kinds of things.

Yep its a scam. It happened to my girlfriends Mum a few months ago.

Usually if you have to ask if something is a scam, that is a good way to tell haha.

Don't do it. If you're dealing on Craigslist, use CASH. As they say, CASH is KING. I've recently bought car from craigslist, cash. In the USA, there's a lot of paperwork that needs to be done when selling a car.. I advise to you get an AS-IS warranty disclaimer and a bill of sale, too. I think the bill of sale is mandatory... but have whoever is buying it be there, in person. Have them pay cash, and don't be in a rush, you'll sell your car :y:
