(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I am an American that has recently moved to Sicily, Italy. My husband and two young sons moved here in Feb. & haven't started to make plans for checking out Europe. So i thought, out of any place, NGU could be a good place to start looking into places to visit. My husband and i have a 5 year anniversary coming up August 26th & we want to visit somewhere fun for our whole family. Where would you go, what hotel would you stay in (or have stayed in) places to eat at your favorite destination? (ect.) Keep in mind while making suggestions we are a family not crazy party animals. We would be flying so suggestions are open for anywhere in Europe. Thanks in advanced!

P.s. Ireland is top on my list...How is Dublin? ^_^

So really the first thing is to be prepared that you will probably have shit weather when you are here as we get 2 weeks of summer at most every year.. (if you want last minute I'll let you know when it gets good lol). Otherwise for things to do family wise, the zoo is quite good. Its based in a large park which has the presidents house, Garda (police) hq etc near it as well. A lot of wild animals in the park like reindeer so your kids might like that to spend a day there (on rare good weather).

Not far from Dublin in County Wicklow is a place called Powerscourt. I normally go here every summer. Its a 13th century Castle estate owned by some Viscount. I'm not sure if the house is open to the public but the gardens are etc and nearby in a valley is a waterfall that a lot of people have BBQ's around etc in good weather. There's quite a few parks for kids etc here near the base of the waterfall.

Malahide Castle if you like that kind of thing is good. The castle has a large grounds open to the public at no cost and has a big park for kids. I think there's a farm too. The castle is quite interesting to see.

As you can see where I'm going there isn't much you wouldn't find anywhere else unless you're looking to see heritage etc, but I'll go on.

Outside Dublin though you can find quite a few things to do if you're willing to travel by rail/bus or rent a car. The Burren is a big attraction among foreigners I'm told. Its in Clare so thats a train ride away. There is a large network of caves there called the Aillwee Caves along with a lot of history in the Burren like tombs of stone etc.

Cliffs of Moher are in the west of Ireland too. Big massive cliffs down into the sea that are almost vertical from hundreds of feet up.

Honestly there isn't much family wise here. Irelands main tourist attraction is the bars, pubs, clubs, drinking festivals like Arthurs Day. Any questions though about anything in Ireland I'll be glad to help :p

How is the Malloy (sp?) Castle? I have heard the legends of the banshee & saw a documentary once.. Do they open it to the public? I am not much of a tourist though i'd like to see the history, parks & eat some good food. I added to your rep for the time you took up to help me. Thanks!

My mother in law recently went to dublin and does not reccommend it purely for the expense of it the cost of things there are alot. I personally would recommend france specificaly the outter country side. Fly in to paris and take a train to charles de gaulle and visit all the chateus i highly recommend it. My holiday was beautiful and i am definately going again Smile

I have personally visited a large portion of Europe and by far I would have to say the places where I enjoyed myself the most were while I was in Germany, Italy and Austria. Germany has a very relaxed atmosphere, and the local food is delicious. The people are very friendly and were very open to different languages. I personally stayed in Munich visiting places like the BMW museum, the markets, and St. Peter's church. I liked Germany and it was a nice experience.

Italy was nice too, I stayed in Milan for about a week. There is a lot to see in the country side and really just walking around. I can't remember much about Milan as I was fairly young.

And Austria has good schnitzel. Winky Winky
