I'm picking up this bad boy for $3k. Currently has a 6" lift, 35" tires, 4 speed manual transmission and a 350 small block with 20k on a rebuild. Before you comment about the shape of the truck, yes, I know it's not in mint condition. But this summer I plan on working my ass off to get enough to get this thing painted and detailed like no other to possibly make it look like this:

This spectacular 1970 rust-free short bed factory 4x4 has been professionally restored from the frame up with attention to every detail. It rides on 35" Pro-Comp tires mounted on 15"x10" Mickey Thompson Classic wheels. A complete 6" Skyjacker suspension system (all springs, no blocks) with all of the parts to properly correct the steering geometry. This lift is done right. The body is completely rust-free as can be easily seen since the entire underside of the truck is painted Torch Red like the rest of the truck. Under the hood is a 454cid big block with Edelbrock Air Gap intake and carburetor, coated headers collect into the 3" stainless steel exhaust pipes with Flowmaster mufflers. The transmission is a built 350 Turbo with a 400 convertor. All new chrome inside and out with all new lenses, rubbers and fasteners. Nothing but the very best has been utilized on this truck with meticulous attention paid to every detail.

I don't think I will put a 454 big block in it unless I have some left over money that I can afford a new motor.

What do you guys think about this? My dad says that it's all a dream and that I won't go through with it, but I really think it's possible if I save up money to get this thing done. I'll tell you right now that I'll be getting ready to sand that mofo once it's sitting in my driveway.

OP when are you going to give me a shot at your honda s2000?

Back to the thread and serious advice: I don't think it'd be wise to build an old car. First and foremost, the aspect. These projects are not easy to predict , why? Because you don't know what mood you will wake up in tomorrow , the price of tools ( trust me you will need to buy some form of tools), the parts, the labor, the fact your dad isn't supporting you, etc. Your young man and its a cool idea on paper, but why waste your summer on this? Yea it's both a learning and educational experience. However, you can use the money for a better cause or even in the event of a rainy day.

If you choose to ignore me, do your homework, and good luck :y:

I love projects cars. Or, trucks in this matter. Don't rush it, buy it and work on it slowly. How's the mechanical side of it? If all you're trying to restore is the paint and interior, then that shouldn't be hard at all. Take it to a trusted shop, and bam! For the paint at least. You can have fun gutting the damn interior and making it look immaculate. The engines the fun part Smile

OP's got an S2k? I want dem seats!!

But I think you're wrong. The roadblocks are part of the fun which will make you feel that much greater upon completion. I take pride in a car I've built over a car I've bought.
