(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Over my time here at NGU, I've personally seen the good times, and the bad times here. I've seen the shoutbox go from 20 members active on average. To 50 on average, back to 10-20 active range. This has happened on section activity as well.

This may be a gaming forum, but on any forum General Discussion or misc. is that most popular, and most active section. Because people are different, not everyone likes cod, or the same consoles. But when you put a community into a general category you're going to get all different kind of things.

This section has all kinds of things. We're doing great on the General part. But this section fails horribly on the discussion area. I know I don't contribute as much as I'd like to the site, but I make an attempt when I'm on.
Firstly: The definition of Discussion
You must login or register to view this content.

I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here, this site still has a large community. There is potential here. The community just has to learn to not flame each other non stop. Get a long, you're all here because you have similar interests. GAMING! The synonyms of Discussion are as followed You must login or register to view this content. people are going to disagree on things, that's why we debate it, or argue over it. Not turn it into a "reputation war"

Secondly: What I mean by discussion
Threads that no matter the content, can keep getting talked about. I'm pretty well known here, and it's not for modding. I hangout in forum help, and GD. These are my example threads of what I post.
Look this thread has been open for a short time and already a lot of replies.

These are random things, but stuff that can be talked about. That's all we need in this section. Please do your part, if you come here everyday, don't just browse. Post, be a contributing member. Start conversations with people, that's key!
Thanks.

2) General Discussion isn't our most popular forum, usually one of the PS3 or the latest CoD at said time are

I didn't mean that shoutbox activity reflects site activity. I was stating it as like the shoutbox, section activity changes.
Then I said GD should be the most popular forum. :p

Yeah, I've been here for a year so far and I'm known around the community for modding. The site is active, but needs more activity in the sections. The modding sections are overrun with people, that's the only reason why most people are here now for mods.
About the rep, I think neg rep should be disabled and rep should be lowered (every member can give the same amount say 10 or 20, instead of someone with 2,000+ posts = 150+ rep lol). If rep was set like that or even disabled it would fix some of the things on here. Don't get me wrong, most users including I enjoy the reputation system, but it's others that abuse it and ruin it for the rest of us.

Thanks for reading Happy

Anything that I'm interested in and would want to promote proper discussion on goes in the intellectual discussion section. Everything else just goes in the standard section like Desktop thread and music threads etc. Honestly I'd love to see a thread where you just post whatever the fuck you want and people comments discuss shit in a thread that had no beginning topic.

It'd be very unorganized. It's like a thread version of the shoutbox.

Gambler, you have some great points I would like to agree with. I think starting a conversation that can be discussed is key in engaging people to participate and contribute more to the site in general I guess. If a convo is fun and unique, then more people will keep it going.

I agree completely with you and Jake. I like this section and I've probably been the most active here of forum help throughout my time on NGU (besides the homepage for obvious reasons). Your buttsex thread is the type of thread we need more of, well not the buttsex (although I'm completely for it) part but the general idea of the thread, ie. peoples view on things and others asking people questions about what they post etc. More threads like that would give me a reason to come back and visit NGU after I leave, but most people on this site aren't capable of handling a discussion without flaming or posting stupid and utterly retarded replies like Smexeh (you're not the only one, just using an exam) or replies like SourceFeds.

Great work on trying to the get the section back to its peak activity though Andrew :y:
