Talk to people specifically in the shoutbox and be on topic. Try to talk to the same people when you see them in the shoutbox and become shoutbox friends. Once this is achieved, you are not ignored any longer.

because you have to have a connection with them (start chatting with users individually if possible)... just like in real life, you dont just go walking up to strangers and automatically act like you've known each other for years, do you?

You most likely tall to people you don't know like your best friends or be a complete shithead or are always off topic/ asking for mods. That's why most of the newer or not as active/ known people get ignored.

Not going to lie the site is big as a result it's hard to get noticed and takes some time. I remember my first time in the shoutbox took about 6 months before people noticed me.
Don't worry about it keep around and chatting away your get noticed. And the shoutbox is not the site the forums too

Do try to chat to everybody when I pop into the shoutbox but at times it can get busy. My best bit of advice is to follow the topic at hand. And try talk to the same people again if possible

Have a short name and just be friendly really. As RTS said, it does take time for people to notice you (I don't know why).
