Banger racing. Its hard to explain, even the elder generation of the sport have trouble explaining because you simply can't until you go and watch and understand it.
Let me try and explain:
Go and get a road car thats ready to be scrapped but has one last bit of life in it. Take it back to your yard and when i say yard i mean something like this(Tools, a work shed or garage of some sort to build the car for racing):

Then once the car is back, i dont know the ins and outs because im not a driver yet. You literally remove everything from the car, windows, seats, electrical stuff ie lights), remove any sharp objects etc. Leaving the drivers seat, gearbox, engine, steering wheel etc, like a nascar just enough for a driver and of course then apply the saftey parts to a car, a door plate covering the drivers door, stopping any impacts on the driver doors from affecting the driver, plates down the passenger side, bolts to hold down the bonnet to stop it coming off/up, bolts to keep the boot down, tape around the cars arches and inside a h-frame for protection and of course a roof fin to display who they are and their number).. which will look like this:

After this the car is then painted/signwritten for a fee or left as its called, raw:

The car is then loaded onto an 'Hiab' or 'Beavertail' and strapped up to save it falling off while travelling and then come race day the driver will drive to the track in their truck with the car, unload it and race:

Then theres the racing, depending on how many cars turn up, can vary from 20 all the way up to 200. There is a meeting in October which has now been split due to over 300 cars wanting to race.. 60+ for the Saturday and 230 for Sunday. Its simple once you understand. Depending on track size it will either be all in, all cars to race or split heats where they have 80 cars and will split it into two 40 car races. Drivers line up two in the row. The track is oval and over the UK they vary from Tarmac to Shale to Dirt, the most common being Tarmac. There is a pace car as most racing sports that will lead them round on a 'warm up' lap and drive off on turn 4 and let them go. 15 laps for heats and a final. There is usually 2 heats a final and a dd(Will cover later). There is of course health and safety and a flag system. Green = Go, Yellow = Caution be careful where they are displayed, Red = STOP no car to move until reds are removed, BLACK = Disqualified (Ie flat tire), Checker flag = Finsh. Another rule, no hitting on the centre, there is always an infield where drivers can park up if the car isnt running right or if they have been black flagged, this is if you like to call it the safety area. Another rule is no turning around, at times drivers can get angry or annoyed and will take their anger out by turning their car around going the opposite way and hitting cars, doing these can end in bans of up to a year. No contact is to be made with the drivers door, obviously accidents happen. Its cars hitting cars, accidents are bound to happen. The crowd are there for crashing, seeing a car being either pushed into the armco and getting jacked up(Looks like this Car at back with bonnet facing upwards>/\< Car at front with bonnet facing downwards).. there is blitzes, just going flat out foot to floor into a stationary car. Obviously you get rollovers etc, tbones where a car drivers into the passenger doors at heavy speeds. Head-ons where both cars hit on their bonnets. Once the checker flag has been shown it will be out for another lap called the 'run down lap' the race is still going until the reds come out. Depending how badly the car is damaged it can either drive off or be towed off on a recovery truck to get it repaired for the next race unless its unfixable, some damage pictures and pit work(The pits is wear the lorrys park to unload the cars):

Once both heats and final are complete, only the DD is left, it is all available remaining cars that are still running! They line them up as they would for a race and its clutch start, once the gate closes they drop the green flag and its LAST CAR RUNNING, thats right the only way to win is to be the last car running and can produce some of the meetings action.

There are many aspects of the sport:
- Various types of bangers - Unlimited = Anything Big, 2 litre = 2000cc or less, 1600's = 1600cc or less etc, Vans = Obviously van bangers, Reliant robins = Reliant robin bangers, Caravans = Car with caravan etc
- Various tracks all over the country!
- Different start times, some tracks start at 12 and some start at 6-8
- To spectate it is very cheap, it ranges from £10 - £20 for 5 hours racing, fantastic!
There is loads to find out, this was my opinion of the sport how to explain it is. I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as i loved writing it.
Kind Regards,
Gommy.
