Post: Are Machinima Skits dead?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Machinima skits will always have a true place in my heart, but their hasn't been any quality popular machinimas for ages. Whether it's Halo or COD, no one makes them anymore. I myself make Machinimas, just started to recently, but no one is really interested.

So here's the debate, are machinimas dead? Can they be revived?

Machinima as a company is known for messing up popular series. Recently, the final episode of Arby 'N' Chief was released. (even though there's been like 3 of those) and I lost interest in that series after they sold to Machinima, as it started losing it's original comedy ideas.

Personally, I think there's a chance for revival. A lot of features can be used in the Theater modes provided for users in COD and Halo. I love the COD theater mode, and I'm pretty proud of the stuff I've made. What do you guys think it will take for it to revive itself, if it's possible? Old machinimas and comedy skits with games were simple, and made with minimal effort, but were a HUGE success.

^ Take this video for example. This is called 'Hotel Perfection.' A Machinima made by xKappyx28 (Who was a rival with my filmmaking clan back in '09-10) This video was posted here when it came out 5 years ago, and it received HUGE praise. Looking back on it, it wasn't even a really good video. Yeah, there was humor, but it was dull and poorly scripted. Most likely improvised.

^ and then there's this video. This is the one I've made (note, I'm not advertising the video, just using it as an example.) I carefully edited the video to make sure minimal mistakes were made, and that the humor was present. I used actual camera angles and techniques, making sure the rules of continuity were followed, avoiding jump cuts, etc. Now, there's no way in HELL, even in 5 years, that it will recieve 600,000+ views, probably not even 1,000. This is, unless, the community WANTS Machinimas to come back.

Nowadays, the only videos that become successful are either gameplays, MLG, or just outright craziness in lobbies like Sp33dy's videos(which get hundreds of thousands of views per video). Machinimas don't exist anymore, and those that do don't get the attention they used to.

So what do you think? Will they ever make a comeback? Does the community want them back? Let's hear your thoughts.

The first one was good for its time, I'm not big on them but the voice covers in the second one are pretty good, they are dead, if you made that quality 3-4 years ago you would be big but over time YouTube standards change like in the beginning of mw2 a 360 no scope off a building was a sweet shot or a quad feed was sweet now both of those are kinda crap.

Yeah, I agree. Standards for good videos nowadays have really sky rocketed. It's hard to tell what the community likes and doesn't like. It's a shame that it's not what it used to be.

In Flames Much?
I don't think so short funny videos always get a ton of views on YT.
Sanity Not Included uses some video games for its videos.
Also Battlefield Friends.
Most likely more examples I don't think its dead more the quality has increased along with how easy it is to make.
