Post: Help Getting Out of an AP Class?
08-28-2013, 01:38 AM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So like an idiot I decided to take AP U.S. History this year in high school (I'm a sophomore). There is literally so much work to do every day and every week that I can't simply handle it and I am not ready for it. I know 100% that I do not want to take this class. I already spoke to my counselor and she said that since I "signed" a "contract" that she can't really do anything about it. But... she said there is one thing I could try which is talking personally to my teacher. This is where I need help. I'm not really sure what to say to him and I don't want to screw it up because he is the only one who could save me. I completely regret taking this class and I was hoping you guys could help me and give me some tips on what to say. Thanks NGU <3

Just be honest with him say you really like the class but at this time AP is too much for you. Im sure as long as he is not an asshole he will do it.

Hmm don't know how scheduling classes in your high school is like but where I live their is no "contract," you can drop any class within a certain period. I was in a similar predicament like you with AP Environmental Science, I decided to give it another chance and Environmental Science is my major now.

What I don't understand is why your counselor won't let you drop the class. I personally think she/he's bluffing and doesn't want to edit your schedule to remove you from the class. Anyway just go talk to your teacher after class one day and tell him that you cannot handle the workload required to stay in the class and to maintain a decent GPA. Hopefully he can help you get out of the class, worst case scenario is that you'll be stuck in the class and have to deal with the workload and hope for the best.

Best of luck bro.

Like someone else said I would recommend just bein honest with your teacher about where you stand with his class. If that doesn't work then you may want to meet with your dean of academics and talk to him about your problem.

If you have your parent email the counselor it should help get things moving. The teacher will do his/her best to keep you in the class. Trust me. AP World History was not fun.

I agree with Jango. Have a parent email the counselor and see if it can get things moving. If it doesn't, I would go to the board of education if your parent's agree with you and you really don't want to be in the class. Talking to your teacher from experience will just make the situation worse. I was in AP English in 9th and I told my teacher that this class was really hard because we did an extreme amount of work and literally read like 20 novels throughout a semester. I told her that I was considering dropping out and she "disciplined" me and gave me a speech about why I needed to stay with AP classes.

This sounds a bit extreme, and a lot of work, but it will most likely be worth it in the end because it will save you a whole year. The hardest part would most likely be finding out how to contact them :p

That's rather simple... or at least where I live haha :p
I contact the board of education for my county all of the time, my school system is corrupt Smile

Get kicked out of the class and try getting a different class to replace it. I did that with Spanish.
