Alright here is my take on the World Series.
The Yankees have home field advantage in the 7 game series but that doesn't really matter as the Phillies have been road warriors throughout this season. They played the Yankees earlier in the season and took 2-3 and very well should have been a sweep but Lidge blew the save.
Now to Yankee Stadium. This stadium can very well be heaven to the Phillies. The stadium fits the Phillies left handed bats very much Utley, Howard and Ibanez will be hitting souvenirs left and right if the Yankees pitchers make a mistake pitch. Then you throw Matt Stairs into the equation with the DH spot, Stairs swings the ball with one intention only to hit the ball out of the stadium, but hey don't ask me ask Broxton of the Dodgers if Stairs hits bombs I'm sure he can answer.
Now to the pitching aspect of the series. Honestly, both of these teams have great starting pitching and questionable bullpens. How would you like to be an Indian fan watching two starting pitchers you had at one time both pitching in game 1 of the World Series? I honestly like Lee over Sabathia, Lee has great command of all his pitchers, however, both have struggled against the teams they are pitching against. Martinez, Burnett, Pettitte, Hamels are impossible to say what you can expect out of them, all 4 can be absolutely dominate or get knocked around bad, I would take Phillies 2 over the Yankees 2 though. Pedro and Pettitte are both up their in age but the difference is Pedro pitched half a season compared to Pettittes full season, so Pedro has more juice in that arm. Hamels is one of the toughest pitchers to hit when he is on his game and although he hasn't shown it he is dominate in the big games.
Now to the hitting portion of the series. First lets take the big boppers of both team and put them up against each other. Ryan Howard and Alex Rodriguez both are having HUGE postseasons, however, if you had me pick which one is going to continue to have success I would take Howard. Sure Rodriguez has played slightly better so far, but Rodriguez has struggled in the post seasons of past, where as Howard has not, so give me the one that has proven to be more consistent at the big stage. Both line ups are deep and can hurt you from 1-9.
Oh yes to the defense. I really don't got much to say about this I give the edge to the Phillies. All 3 Phillies outfielders have cannons for arms and other then Ibanez have good speed. At first base I would give the edge to Texiera. Second base I'd take Utley's glove over Cano. At third base its not question I'd take Feliz over Rodriguez. Jeter and Rollins are both very good and would be a toss up, you couldn't go wrong with either playing short stop for your team. Finally, Ruiz is one of the best defensive catchers in baseball.
Overall, I see this series as being an amazing one and will probably be the best of this decade. Give me the Phillies in 6!
