During the time between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15 Target’s database of user data, including emails, credit card numbers, PINs, and phone numbers was tampered with and most of the data was stolen. It is being said that around 70 Million consumers could have been bothered by the hack.

But there’s good news in all this for consumers: Although the hack will be irritating for lots of people who have to get new credit and debit cards nobody should lose any money after it’s all said and done.

Target will take the loss for any money stolen from it’s customers. When purchases are made with a credit card, the credit card providers make the customer and the bank even. Meaning neither the bank nor the customer lose. They then recover the money that was charged by fining the merchant or raising the merchant’s swipe fees in this case Target. It is estimated that target will lose close to $50 Million.

but its more than that.. there are ppl out there with sensitive information that was taken from the target database.. names CC number address' emails. if those ppl signed up for target saving club or anything like that there information was saved too.. that information alone can ruin someones life.. cc theft is just the beginning of identity theft.. now there is 70 plus millions of ppl at risk of this compromise. just glad its not me as I dont shop at target..

You can't steal someones identity just with a name address and an old credit card number.

Still want to know how this was possible, it's good to see they did tell people about it.
90% of companies just don't bother and fix the hole.

It seems the hackers figured out a backdoor in the database that all the "swipers" send and receive data from, and they were able to extract all data.

I do think Target handled it very well though.

I can't find fault with how they handled the whole thing Smile

Most hacks these days are just to prove points, to basically say hey, we can hack you because your security sucks lol.
