Mine would be no other than Nikola Tesla.
Nikola Tesla was a one-man act. As a man ahead of his time and electrical engineer, Tesla owned about 700 patents. While Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse took the credit for the invention of electric light and the currents that they used, it was Tesla, who worked as a consultant for both men, who patented the AC induction motor. In addition to his contribution to the design of today’s AC electric system, Tesla helped invent radio communication, advanced X-ray technologies, and the fluorescent lighting. He also made a patent for a biplane that uses a tilt-rotor/tilt-wing concept. He was a man who saw things very clearly, was not concerned with money, women, fame, even his own comfort. He was a pure genius who lived on a different level than most of us. He also invented the radar, earthquake machine, the remote control, neon lighting, wireless communications and others. He spoke eight languages (Serbian, English, Czech, German, French, Hungarian, Italian and Latin). He could memorize entire books and recite them at will. This guy, Nikola Tesla, was a pure genius.
Who would you pick?
I agree Nikola Tesla is a very smart man, but the smartest? Think about all the writers, inventors, philosphers, scientists... If you invented one good thing is it better than someone who invented 50 shitty things? The main issue I have with describing one person as most intelligent is how do you measure? What is intelligence? The aptitude for creation? Obedience of teachers/professors? The ability to figure out something in a hard situation? As you can see the term "intelligence" is very ambiguous. Think of all the people who have higher literature intelligence, emotional intelligence, physical intelligence, spiritual intelligence... etc.
and to be honest, I don't think there is ONE most intelligent man; rather, many of them.
