Today I received a speeding ticket in a school zone of 30mph. The officer claimed i was going 42, but i was positive i was doing maybe 33. I know it for a fact because we get out of school for golf 5 minutes before the school zone ends, which is at 3:10 and the officer has pulled over 90% of our team for speeding in a school zone. Therefore we are all very cautious when we leave because he hides everyday and gets one of us. Anyway, He has another person pulled over as i passed by him. It was 3:08 and i was very close to being out of the school zone outside. I looked back and he weaved around cars and flipped his lights on. He wrote me the ticket for 42 and i asked to see the radar, he said that it goes to 0 after he stops so he couldnt show me my speed. I feel like there are way too many off variables here to not fight the ticket... what should/can i do? Im 17 and it was my very first time being pulled over. I also live in Texas! Some advice would be great...
That cop has to much time on his hands. You must live in a small town as the cops in my town are the same. Four cop cars go to one incident instead of 1-2 it is fucking hilarous. They are bored out of their minds.
I don't live in Texas so I don't know what you can do. If you can prove your right then fight, but without evidence then there is no backup. I would just pay the ticket and be cautious in future of ninja police.
You should live in the city lol, heck you can drive fast and not wear a seat belt and the cops don't care if you do it or not, it's for your safety and it's all your fault.
I know that in the UK you can drive no more than 10% over the speed limit. 30mph = legal limit 33mph.
As for USA I don't know. But I mean, if you take it to a judge or something and provide proof, (or get the officer to provide proof) and they should favour your side of the argument.
I'm pretty sure he is bullshitting you about saying it drops to zero when he stops. I've asked to see the radar twice before because that's the only proof they have of you speeding.
If he couldn't prove that you were speeding because "it drops to 0 when he stops", then you have every right to challenge the ticket. As long as your judge isn't a complete douche then he'll most likely side with you when you tell him that the officer wouldn't let you see the radar.
Here in California, you're able to go over and under the speeding limit by 5. So if it's 30mph, you can go anywhere between 25-35mph. If you're going under the 5mph they give you, you're technically slowing down traffic. Obviously if you're going over the other 5, you're speeding. I'd take it to court if I were you.
