I think it's a smart move from Microsoft. They could've been like "ah cool, thanks kid" and offered no credit.

However, by supplying credit, in his future years he can look back and be like "damn right I showed Microsoft a flaw in their systems at age 5". That is going to look pretty swish on a Job Application too!
