(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Security Supports has officially ended as of 8/4/14.

After 12 years, Microsoft is ending support for its Windows XP operating system tonight at midnight. After this point, the company will no longer offer security updates and technical support for the OS.

If you are still using XP, Microsoft urges you to migrate to a "modern operating system" like Windows 8. Support for Office 2003 will also end today, April 8.

Microsoft launched Windows XP on December 31, 2000 and stopped selling the OS at retailers June 30, 2008. On October 22, 2010, Microsoft stopped selling Windows machines with Windows XP installed.

The end of support for Windows XP is proving problematic for some larger institutions. For example, thousands of computers in the Connecticut state government system still run Windows XP. The hard drives on the computers have tax information, inmate lists, and other various regulatory files, all of which could become vulnerable to security breaches over time.

Microsoft says enterprise customers (companies or institutions with 500+ employees) can reach out to Microsoft to learn how they can mass-upgrade their network of machines

In Flames Much?
If only their upgrade prices was not stupid more people would upgrade, loads of business won't due to how high the cost is.
Rather sad more people won't move over to open source OS's to prove a point.

What point would that be? Headaches? Sorry but pretty much every open source OS is not for the person who is still clinging to XP.

Software should cost less
And yea I know but whatever the market demands people pay for it.
I'm curious how the OS market is going to change.

R&Awesome face isn't cheap. Software engineers aren't cheap and maintaining multiple OS's isn't cheap. Microsoft really did a good thing when 8 came out. They had the $40 upgrade and for whatever reason people didn't jump on that and now complain that they lost support for xp. It doesnt take much to run windows 7/8 and most of those old machines could probably get away with running at ;least 7. Maybe a few upgrades in ram and a HDD but that's about it.

Worth the Weight
Get over the Windows 8 hate, it's not bad anymore. All the problems that people had (literally the only one was that there was no start menu and the metro interface) can easily be remedied. Windows 8 boots faster and it's literally a prettier lighter and faster version of Windows 7 now. If it means that much to you just say you prefer 7, don't bash 8 when it's literally the same OS. As for XP, it's time has come, it was extremely stable and basically defined my childhood, but it's out of date and if any business took itself seriously it would have already upgraded by now. On the other hand, if XP could support DX 11 and ran in 64-bit mode then I would probably running it as my daily driver.
