Rain Man – one third of EDM superstars Krewella – has split from the group and is suing his former bandmates to the tune of $5 million, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

According to court documents obtained by The Hollywood Reporter this morning, Rain Man – real name Kris Trindl – has been muscled out of the group by sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf and their manager Jake Udell, following problems that arose from his alcoholism. According to Trindl, the sisters used his struggle with alcohol to “conspire” to have him removed from the group, so that they could reap a bigger share of the group’s profits.

He’s not taking the split lightly: Trindl is suing the group for the damages, submitting that he has a “contractual right to receive his one-third equity share in any commercial exploitation of the Krewella name”. The dollar amount on that? “Trindl has been damaged in an amount that is not as of yet fully ascertained but which Trindl believes exceeds $5,000,000”

The 18 page court documents, which you can read in full below, chart Krewella’s rise from their Chicago beginnings to their current superstar status. According to Trindl’s submission, after years of successful work with the group he completed a 30-day rehab program in late 2013, the result of him using alcohol to cope with “the pressure” of Krewella’s heavy tour schedule and his duties as the group’s sole producer.

After completing rehab, Kris maintains he stayed sober, but that the Yousaf sisters didn’t like “the new Kris” and mistook his focus on sobriety for depression. “At this time,” Trindl’s lawyers state, “Udell, the Yousaf sisters and others conspired to remove Kris from the group altogether”. According to Trindl, Jahan, Yasmine and their manager believed it would cost less money to hire outside producers than it would to continue spliting their income evenly with Kris.

Then in March of 2014, Kris missed his flight to Mexico’s Electric Daisy Carnival, where Krewella were due to perform. Jahan and Yasmine performed without Kris and, he says, “used the opportunity of the missed flight to make a big change in Krewella, to betray one of its founders, to find a way to make much more money for themselves. All they had to do was squeeze Kris out of the band.”

That same month, Udell and the Yousaf sisters staged an intervention for Kris, asking him to return to rehab and seek treatment for depression. Kris agreed to take a hiatus from touring, though continued to produce for the group from his home in L.A. Trindl believes the rest of the band used this time to keep him off the road so that Jahan and Yasmine could establish themselves as a duo.

At that point the trio could not reach an agreement about Trindl’s future in the group, lawyers were brought in, and Rain Man filed for damages. You can read the court documents in full below.

In Flames Much?
So sad how success can cause your own failure and down fall.
Sounds like he was not over the alcoholism, and income thing just throws it on top.
:(
I did like that group.

Where's the $150 you stole from me?
